He was doing up 40 xanax a day. With a benzo addiction like that, he couldn't sleep co he was jonesing for benzos....if he had quit them abruptly he would have likely had fatal grand mal seizures.
This doctor had a very sensitive and special case with Michael, and he used propofol for an off-label use
as a sleep aid instead of it's regular use as a powerful anesthetic for surgical procedures. It is generally a very safe drug, but Michael wasn't fit for the anesthesia of a surgery night after night....yet if he stopped the xanax he could die, and he couldn't sleep at all until the xanax was slowly tapered off unless he used propofol. Michael insisted on it, but his body just couldn't take the chemicals anymore.
If the doctor is guilty of anything he is guilty of trying to give Michael some relief. He was in a terrible state with a very dangerous addiction, and it was only a matter of time before his body just gave out with the huge xanax habit he had..
