This nation spearheaded many of the advances in technology that assisted in the advancement of many causes, such as the fight against world hunger, space travel, environmental consciousness, and even democracy. This nation led the world in the initial forty years after WW2 by promoting prosperity, working for common goals, and encouraging freedoms for all of its citizens as long as the freedom did not encroach on another’s. The people complained some as they always will but overall felt good about their nation’s role in the world.
Then a type of greed and corruption sanctioned and promoted by the government created a deep chasm between the government and its citizens that was so large that a collapse of the governing body became inevitable. The USA had many financial safeguards put place after the great depression of 1929 that kept the system intact and functioning. Those in power chose to disregard and modify them for their own benefit. This put them on the same path as other great civilizations by allowing greed and corruption to become legalized by certain groups and individuals. This nations collapse and damage to world’s economy took over 50 years to recover from. During that time the year 2012 was promoted as the end of the world just before this economic collapse. I wish they would have understood that it was just a turning point in the world history and this country still had the ability to rectify the course of the world for good in 2012. When will we learn from history?
