It's not about the "politically damaged president". It's about Russia replacing old junk with US subsidies only to replace it with much more advanced WMDs. As Vlad Lenin said: "Those useful idiots will give us a rope, so we can hang them."In today's global economy, nuclear weapons have become obsolete as strategic weapons because they are too destructive, and the downside for using them outweighs any possible upside. During the Cold War, the U.S. and Russia were like two cars driving side-by-side down the highway with their windows rolled down, each driver armed with a grenade in case the other guy tossed his grenade in first. Now, we're both riding in the SAME car, but still threatening each other with our grenades, while a school bus full of radical muslims is pulling up alongside us.
I'm not pollyanna. I think there will always be war. But maintaining a nuclear rivalry with Russia is just plain stupid - and a waste of the money that we borrow from the Chinese to keep our nation from going bankrupt.
