While Afghanistan may be ranked as the “most dangerous country” for women, there are many countries just as bad. Religion and customs in some countries are so far from our understanding we of course view them as barbaric. The United States, no matter how strong the military, just can't keep going into these countries on human rights grounds and change the way they think. It might seem the right thing to do but it has in most cases never worked. We are seeing revolution in parts of the world and I hope the result is a better life for all. The people of the countries involved are going to determine their fate. Not us. It's not our place to meddle in the affairs of other countries and cultures. I'm not so sure that America has it right, either. While the Middle East is sexist against women, America is sexist against men. In America they throw innocent men in prison - at a woman's whim, first they take his children, then his money, and if he loses his job, then they throw him in debtor's prison under the guise of contempt of court. Even in the Middle East they don't throw innocent women in prison - women who have committed no crime. But in America, we do it to men by the millions - and no one says a single word. I'm not so sure that other cultures are worse - just different. America's misandry is just as bad as their misogyny. It's none of our business to impose our views on anyone else - especially since ours don't work for us.
