No anti-Semitism at Durban II

“It’s difficult to deny that Zionism, in practice if not in theory, amounts to ethnic chauvinism, colonial ethnocentrism and national oppression,” – Tim Wise, a Jewish writer and lecturer based in Nashville, Tennessee.
“The purpose of Zionism is to help colonize the Middle East, subvert Islam, and control the oilfields,” Henry Makow PhD, Canadian academic and a former Zionist ettler in Israel, December 9, 2002.
“It is about time we internalise the fact that Israel and Zionism are the ultimate Evil with no comparison,” – Glad Atzmon, son of one of founders of Israel and former official in Israel Air Force, wrote in peacepalestine blog, August 10, 2006.
United Nations held its first World Conference Against Racism, in Durban (South Africa), from August 31 to September 7, 2001. The Forum was attended by 150 countries. The US and Israel pulled out of the conference for its equating Zionism to racism. The EU, under the pressure of it Jewish lobby groups, condemned the ‘Durban Resolution’ – for it defined Israel as a ‘racist entity’. Former Cuban president, who spoke at the conference, called Israel’s treatment of Palestinian natives, as “Genocide”.
The NGOs around the world, meeting in Durban alongside the UN World Conference Against Racism, called for the establishment of an international court to investigate Israel’s war crimes against the native Palestinians and indict anyone found responsible for genocide, ethnic cleansing, or the implementation apartheid-like policy – and reviving the previous UN Resolution, equating Zionism and racism.
Canadian Jewish professor, Diana Ralph, has written No anti-Semitism at Durban II, published on November 6, 2008 – In which she has appealed to Canadian government to end it boycott of the forthcoming conference, Durban II.
“In the aftermath of Durban 2001, well-funded Israel Lobby groups have mobalized to discredit and derail the upcoming Durban Review Conference. They include the Simon Wiesenthal Centre, UN Watch, ICARE-Magenta Foundation, the American Jewish Committee and the World Jewish Diplomatic Corps of thw World Jewish Congress. They characterize WCAR as an “anti-Sematic fest” and label any attention to the valid concerns of Palestiniana as “anti-Semitic”. They defend Israeli discriminatory practices and condemn the condemn the ‘use of human right language to discredit a state (Israel)’. They argue for ‘freedom of expression’, that is, ‘freedom’ of media to attack Islam and Muslims. The object to the term ‘Islamophobia’, because, they say, the religions are not protected, as though targeting Muslims for being Muslims is less offensive than attacking Jews for being Jewish. And they support anti-Arab racial profiling in the name of fighting ‘terrorism’.
On February 5, Israel Lobby groups held an unpublicized meeting in Amsterdam with Jose Dougan-Beaca, head of UN Anti-Discrimination Unit, which is the sectretariat for the Durban Review Conference. Jose Dougan-Beaca largely became a partisan advocate for their strategies in the organizing of the Review Conference to the detrment of pro-Durban NGOs.
Last January 23, Canada announced it would boycott Durban Review Conference, and since then, Israel and the US has also withdrawn. This boycott damages our country’s reputation and betrays the world’s (including Canada) victims of racism. Only the Bloc stood firm against Israel Lobby’s lies and threats. I found no substance to allegation of anti-Semitism at WCAR. Independent Jewish Voices urges the Conservatives, Liberals, and NDP to rejoin the Durban Review Conference and stand up against racism.”
