The Gulags were headed by Jews from their beginnings in the late 1920's until the beginning of ww2 - a period called 'The Great Terror' and included the Ukrainian famine, and the liquidation of the Kulaks. Slezkine, a jew himself, refers to them as "Stalin’s willing executioners”. Lev Kopelev, a Jewish writer who witnessed and rationalized the Ukrainian famine - in which millions died horrible deaths of starvation and disease - as being a “historical necessity” and is quoted saying “You mustn’t give in to debilitating pity. We are the agents of historical necessity. We are fulfilling our revolutionary duty.”
