There was clearly something wrong with elections which elected a pro-US government in a country where by all accounts dislike of the occupying forces is widespread.
The present government, sitting in the Green Zone and protected from the people by US firepower, has no more legitimacy than Mubarak did.
It is however extremely violent, as can be seen from the deaths of 23 people in one day. I fear for the Iraqi protesters.
