Lapan also warned traditional news media outlets not to assist WikiLeaks...‘News organizations should be cautioned not to facilitate the leaking of classified documents with this disreputable organization known as WikiLeaks," he told reporters Monday. "The concern is that WikiLeaks as an organization should not be made more credible by having credible news organizations facilitate what they are doing’."
Apparently, Lapan is not familiar with the “Pentagon Papers” incident. Copies of these papers got sent to many of the leading and “reputable” news organizations around the country by the honorable Daniel Ellsberg; most importantly being the New York Times. The Supreme Court of the United States actually got involved after the New York Times starting printing and releasing these papers. The Supreme Court ruled that they could continue printing these, even though they new that these were “Classified” documents. Not only that, Nixon resigned due in large part to him trying to influence the judge handling Daniel Ellsberg’s case, by offering the judge the job of FBI Director. That is exactly why the charges were dropped against Daniel Ellsberg, because of unethical violations of government officials going all the way up to the President of the United States. The “Watergate Scandal” was actually secondary in importance to Nixon resigning because he knew that he was going to face impeachment. In other words, Daniel Ellsberg, by “breaking the law” in releasing “Classified Documents”, played a huge part in getting Nixon “out of office”.
I will bet that the same kind of thing could have happened to President Bush, if he were still in office while these “Iraqi War Documents” were released. After 9/11, once again the New York Times got involved and a reporter received the Pulitzer Prize for reporting on Bush’s “illegal” use of wire-taps on many of us Americans, in the guise of “National Security”. Just like President Nixon, President Bush “broke the law” while in office. It does not matter that 9/11 happened, he acted as if he did not have to follow any existing laws, including the “rules of war” as agreed upon by most of the countries around the world, including the United States, at successive Geneva Convention Meetings.
Anyways, I am glad that Julian Assange is not being intimidated by the prostitutes hired by the leaders of America to try to falsely accuse him of sexual assault. You not only should be ashamed of yourselves, you should be in jail for “false imprisonment”.
Finally, keep up the good work Julian. There are still a few other highly moralistic and honorable people out here, like you, who want to know what is really going on around the world, not the “cover-up” versions that usually make the headlines. Thank you and the other heroes like Bradley Manning and Daniel Ellsberg, who regularly put you jobs, reputation, and maybe even your lives on the line to make sure everyone else around the world knows about it every time an innocent civilian is killed anywhere around the world, for any reason, even if it is by the United States Government. It is the rest of us who deserve to know the TRUTH, and it is WE who decide whether it was merely “death do to war” or if it was actually MURDER. Thanks again for all of your sacrifices.
