Should Christians be discouraged from using the term "Allah"?

The Malaysian cabinet and government declared last week that Malaysian Christians could no longer use the word “Allah”. Their rationale was based on the concern that the use of the word “Allah” by Christians in their religious messages could confuse some Muslims and hence could draw them toward Christianity.

It seems that the ban in Malaysia was placed 20 years ago but was never enforced until a few days ago.
allah Malay Christians argue that the word “Allah” predates the time of Prophet Muhammad and thus predates Islam. They also contend that Christians who predated Islam used the word “Allah” to refer to “God”.

In many regards, their argument is valid and factually correct. Both Arab Christians as well as other non-Christian Arabs actively used the term “Allah” as part of their religious beliefs and practices.

The most common example is that of Prophet Muhammad’s father who was named “Abd Allah” in the period before the dawn of Islam.

In another example, during the signing of the peace treaty of Hudaybiya in the prophet’s time, Suhail bin Amr was sent as the Makkan envoy representing the Quraysh in Makkah and Arabs. During the negotiations, dictating to Ali, the Prophet said: “Write, In the name of Allah, the Most Merciful, the Most Beneficent.” Suhail objected by saying, “Do not write this. Instead, write, ‘In Thy name O Allah.‘” The Prophet in turn complied with his demand.

This is because the words “the Most Merciful” (“Rahman” in Arabic), and “the Most Beneficent” (“Raheem” in Arabic) were revealed in Quran – something non-Muslim Arabs did not recognize at the time.

Furthermore, there seems to be no proof that the Prophet forbade anyone (Christians, Jews, Pagans, etc.) from using the term “Allah”.

Regarding Christians, Allah says in the Quran:

“Surely, disbelievers are those who said: “Allah is the third of the three (in a Trinity).” But there is no ilah (god) (none who has the right to be worshipped) but One Ilah (God -Allah)………(Quran: Al-Maeda, Chapter 5: 73)

In line with the beliefs of Trinity, Arab Christians today use the terms “Allah al-ab” meaning God the father, “Allah al-ibn” meaning God the son, and “Allah al-ruh al koudous” meaning God the Holy Spirit. The Arabic Bible also uses the word “Allah” in its text.

Here lies the dilemma: A number of Christian groups believe that the Muslims’ God is not the same as the “Christian God”.

I attended an interfaith session where evangelical Christian leaders of a Church made it very clear that they did not believe that the God they believed in is the same as the Muslim God or “Allah”. On the contrary, in the same meeting the Muslim attendees made it clear that they believed that our God is the same – rather it’s how Christians attribute Eesa (Jesus) as son of God and other such beliefs that make the two religions different.

One of the evangelical Christian sites reflects the above attitudes when it states:

“The crux of the matter is what definition one gives to the word God in any language. That is, what are the theological ideas that someone has when they refer to God? The theology of the Arab Christian who uses the word Allah is completely different from the theology of the Muslim who also uses the word Allah.”

Some of the non-Arab evangelical Christians (I can’t say if it is all denominations of that group) assert that the Arab Christians using “Allah” is no more significant than Muslims using the word “God” when they speak in English. One of the Christian sites states:

“it could be said that Christians worship Allah, whose son is Jesus; and Muslims worship God, whose prophet is Mohammed.”

Another case in point. While Arab Christians freely use the word “Allah”, other versions of Bible do not use that word in their texts. For example, the English bible does not use the term “Allah”. The Persian bible uses the word “Khuda” in their texts. However, Malaysians in the case cited earlier may be an exception to that rule as they have insisted on the use of the word “Allah”.

This leads one to believe that Arabs using the word “Allah” is more of a linguistic issue than one based on theology. Many blasphemous statem

Muslims vs. Muslims – Who’s right?

Being a Muslim, have you ever been labeled as a Sunni, Shia, Wahhabi, Sufi, or something else?

What about being accused of being a liberal, hijabi, sellout, or a hardliner?

Many of us may take it as an insult to be labeled as one but the reality is that it is how we are labeled by others – unfortunately sometimes unbeknownst to us – and that is how at times we pick our social circles.

Who is right?

Contrary to the happenings of today, the teachings of Islam lay down the foundations of a social system that purports to unite humanity in one social fabric irrespective of race, national or tribal origin and color. We know that this social system includes in itself all the checks and balances to serve the needs of the society at large and makes humans more civilized. Through endless examples, we Muslims believe that a deviation from this course results in a social disorder at all levels thus disintegrating families and communities and results in an Ummah at odds with itself.
Unfortunately, the situation today is just that…a Muslim Ummah at odds with itself at all levels…


The deviation from and poor execution of the social code of Islam demonstrates nothing but a lack of proper “understanding” of that system by Muslims themselves. That, coupled with the many religious interpretations has divided Muslims in groups of hardliners, liberals, Sunnis, Shias, Hijabis, Tablighis, and hundreds of other groups. Allah revealed and the Prophet propagated ONE Islam and ONE set of teachings. Yet, though all these groups claim to be Muslims and desire to be called as “one”, a large chasm separates all these groups.

Islam is not about extremism, fundamentalism, liberalism, or any other –ism that lurks in the media circles out there – rather it’s about being on the “straight path” as defined by Quran and the Prophet, the deviation from which puts us on “separate” paths. As we traverse the minefields of the present day societies, we see ourselves engaged in endless and senseless debates of trying to make haram as halal and halal as haram. We are pulled in discussions that benefit the general media more than enlightening us to return to and stay the course. Today’s society that feeds on the craze of fashion, figure, and fun is driving us to build fancy houses more than better homes and families. Our priorities obviously have become lopsided.

So, why not follow the “straight” path when it holds so much promise? The reasons are many and have been debated for centuries. One small post clearly can not do justice to the topic, but starting the process will bring us closer to addressing these issues.


One of the reasons is failure to mature in our understanding of the religion. When we fail in such a pursuit, we operate at reduced levels of wisdom and as a result we disintegrate in divided families, communities and nations. This “understanding” can not and should not be mixed with “knowledge”. The truth is that while many of us may have the “knowledge” but we do not really “understand” our religion. The message simply doesn’t “click”. It is only when we start connecting the dots after getting the knowledge that we can begin to see the “light”. Understanding therefore is a process that takes time and requires energy. A teenager may “know” that smoking is bad for health while a chain smoker who just lost a lung to lung cancer may fully “understand” that smoking is bad for health. “Understanding therefore is the awareness of the connectedness of this information. It is understanding which allows knowledge to be put to use. Understanding represents a higher level than simple knowledge.”

……… And those who are firmly grounded in knowledge say: "We believe in it; the whole of it (clear and unclear Verses) are from our Lord." And none receive admonition except men of understanding. (Quran: Aal-e-Imran:7) [(Tafsir At-Tabaree)]

The reality is that we can not achieve higher levels of understanding, when we rely on half-baked knowledge. By prematurely indoctrinating ourselves with Islamic philosophies based on insufficient and inaccurate knowledge, we run the risk of devoiding ourselves from higher levels of “understanding” that in turn can provide us with the wisdom to follow Islam the way our Creator wants it to be followed. We therefore need to be cognizant of the dangers of this half-baked knowledge. Just as we wouldn’t trust our health with doctors who possess little knowledge and our life with airplane pilots who have scarce knowledge of flying, why would we seek to build our destinies by having half-baked knowledge of our religion?
When we take Quranic verses out of context, we deny our sisters the education they need. When we confuse crooked cultural norms with Islamic teachings we start mistreating our families and when we overvalue the worldly rewards, we yearn for more power and money – all symptoms of the problem of lack of understanding.


We must therefore strive to increase our levels of knowledge to a point where we can begin to truly “understand”. But that does require freeing up time as well as space in our minds by pushing out what keeps us preoccupied with the craze of fashion, figure, and fun.

We can not begin to achieve mature levels of religious understanding unless we take our religion seriously – It amazes us to see that many who philosophize others about Islam are usually the ones who do not take religion seriously. A little soul searching can tell us how seriously we take our religion. For example, does the promise of earning “Hasanat” (points for being on the right path) truly excites us to the core and encourages us to do more of good deeds or do we simply feel indifferent? Do those feelings in anyway para
llel those of potential worldly rewards such as earning real money in this world? Does the prospect of getting a million Hasanat excite us more than earning a million dollars? Do the warnings mentioned in the Quran and Hadith for engaging ourselves in certain behaviors indeed make our hearts fearful the way Allah wants us to fear?

Once we start truly valuing the rewards mentioned in our religious teachings more than the worldly rewards and start fearing the warnings mentioned in the Quran and Ahadeeth, we can begin to take our religion seriously. Deeper reflection and more time will bring us closer to being serious.

Allah says in the Quran: "O ye who believe! Fear Allah as He should be feared, and die not except in a state of Islam." (Quran, 3:102)

Differences in Religious Interpretations – Although there is almost no disagreement on the authenticity of Quran, it is clear that differing interpretations of Quran in general remain one of the primary dividers of Muslims in general. As hadith is one of the sources of such interpretations, we need to exercise extra due diligence in understanding the true source of hadith. Although the purpose of this post is not to get in the art and science of hadith, a general explanation will help understand the issue.

Scholars strive to establish whether a hadeeth is Sahih (sound or authentic), Hasan (good), Da`if (weak) or Maudu` (fabricated, forged). In general, for a hadith to be saheeh (authentic) it has to meet conditions such as that it has to be from a continuous chain of narrators, the narrators have to be of outstanding character and possess outstanding memory and the hadith must be absent from subtle and obvious defects. There are many other conditions that require an indepth study of Hadith and its sciences. More details can be found in a separate post on this site.

The necessity of narrating and following correct hadith therefore can not be overemphasized, lest we base our religion on fabricated information. Obviously, Muslims who base their religion on fabricated Ahadith are going to form differing opinions than those who take the extra effort to identify such and not use it to base their religion.

To conclude, it is clear that as Muslims, we need to start at the grass root levels within our homes and our communities. More knowledge will help us raise the levels of our understanding. Taking religious teachings more seriously will enable us to get closer to where we agree more and disagree less. Even when we disagree, we will do it in a more civilized way without compromising our fundamentals. When we unite within our families and communities, the positive peaceful vibrations will spread outward and have more of a global impact.

And finally, when we reach that stage, we will have less to complain about unity and everyone else.

This devisions and differences in opinion among muslims are the chief cause for bringing trouble to us today!! If we are muslims and true followers of Prophet (SM), there should exist only one school of thought before all of us. Up until our second caliph Hazrat Umar (R), there were no divisions or differences whatsoever with regard to Islam as a whole. From second half of Hazrat Usman(R), things started changing giving way to enemies of Islam to infiltrate and shake our unity as single muslim ummah. we all know from the history, how enemies of Islam played clandestine roles during the regime of Hazrat Ali (R) bringing him and Hazrat Ayesha(R) face to face in the warfront fighting against each other!

If we carry out indepth study of these ironic incidents from the neutral point of view that took place during the last two caliphs and so on, it becomes amply clear as to how the enemies of Islam were out to disunite us from the very outset of Islamic age!

It is time that we really try to understand our religion properly. Other than Quran, Sahih Hadith and some fundamental writings by great scholars of Islam, we should abstain from reading writings of others specially new comers who tries to teach us Islam newly from the original. To learn our religion, we should try to concentrate on the life of our Prophet (SM), four caliphs and sahabas only. Well, the life and works of other muslim scholars could help us learning religion more easily but these should in no way supersede any of the fundament aspect of Islam. Shias, Wahabis, Tablighis…….and so on, all these ideologies evolved much much later. So, in my opinion the follower of these people should reassess their position a fresh.

It is true that there are some divergent opinions among muslims, but the real problem of the umma is not about difference of opinions it is about the lack of enlightened and charismatic leadership. The division among muslims today, is fueled by tribal, ethnic, and nationalistic paradigms that can only narrow the vision of a greater sense of brotherhood. Allah knows best.

Thanks for your noble and stimulating inspirations.For Muslims to unite,for their progress and the peace of mankind,they have to go back to Allah`s perception on unity.Firstly the existence of differences is not the problem but the problem starts when an individual,group,or community want to forcefully impose it views,doctrines on others.It for the friction that is bound to occur that made Allah to prohibit compusion of faith or religion on others but to give ample opportunity for time and gradation to acceptance.Differences in color,gender,language and culture,is according to the Qur`an ,a manifestation of the great Knowledge,wisdom,and might.It has been acknowleged that no two people are the same throughout history. So no one is allowed in islam to look down upon an other however that person may differ from him.An objective closer look at that individual,society,culture,one would discover `the meeting point’ for unity.Hence the reason for the call of the Muslim to co-operate with the non-Muslim on ‘kalimatsawah’ or the conflux of unity. It is like the challenges of a polygamous family.The childree may may have come from differnt others but the point of unity and strenth here their constant reflectin that that have a common father and his blood runs through their veins.To my opinion,this also true with all human realations and nation states.To argue over differences is not the problem but the bahaviour one puts up in the process of argument,and his after attitude is the problem.Has the Qur`an not ask the muslim to refrain from unnessary questions and arguments?And if they are to engage in any arguments it should be ‘ahsan’ most noble of attitude?The prophets in the Qur`an dissagree with the perception of their people ,to whom they were sent to reform,in many ways,but they were not insulting to them.They put up noblest `ethics of disagreement’ worth pondering over especially in this complex and constantly changing global village.May Allah guide us in the right path of Islam and forgive our sentiments that unnnessarily cause harm to others and islam.amin

The basic problem with some of us is lack of knowledge, and proper understanding of the religion of Islam, as taught by Prophet Muhammad (PBUH). For one to be able to understand what the religion is all about, he has to learn the basic aspect of Islam is all about, know what the religion is all about, and how to worship Allah, because without this, it might be difficult for one to worship.

The absence of this would make those half baked teachers to mislead one, and end up being among the 72 groups which the Prophet (PBUH) mentioned.

It is equally imperative for one to ensure that his kids undergoes the neccessary teaching, in order to understand the religion at tender age, and grow with it.

May Allah help us all, Ameen.

As-salaamalaikum, after going through the very informative and very knowledgeable text here i want to bring that Ayah from the Holy Quran, in which Allah(SWT] says : WATASIMU BIHABLILLAHI JAMIAOU WALA TAFARRAQU that means “strongly hold the rope of Allah and donot get split or divide among yourselves, so if we take only this Ayah we can unite under one banner that is Islam and strongly holding the sunnah of Prophet Mohammed (PBUH)..May Allah guide us all in a right path that can make Him happy….Wasalaam.

asalam aleykum,thanks for always being on the fore front and enlightening us on issues that are affecting the muslim ummah!its very confusing when you are listening to the radio and you ask a question to the muslim scholars on air and then they give you different answers and talk about what imam maliq and hanmbal said and one is left wondering which is the right path to follow.its an issue that needs to be discussed in depth lest the enemies of islam find the crack to divide us even more.

basicaklly i think the divisions apart from lack of really understanding the islamic teaching and the teachings of our beloved prophet(P.B.U.H) western ideologies and modernazition has also influenced the way most of our muslim brothers and sisters think across the this juncture i think we all need to go back to the Q’uran and the teachings of the holy prophet.may ALLAH guide his ummah in the correct path.AMEEN.

Asalamu Alaykum,

Everytime I write my comments I always emphasize my being a New Muslim. This is because to give advance info to the reader that I’m not that knowledgeable yet in Islam.

This schim inside the ummah I think is happening to show to the world that even though we are not united, we are still strong religion. That means, once we are united, then no other religion in this world will be able to stop the succes of spreading Islam to all.

I asked this already one time to an elderly Sunnih why muslims are not united. His answer is the hadith about the Three Prayers of the Prophet (saw) where only two is granted, the third which is the unity of his ummah was denied. I don’t know how authentic that hadith was.

But for me, Inshaalla, I will preach Islam to the Philippines and Inshaalla i will try unite the divided muslims there.

Dear Brothers and Sisters….. Reading some of these peoples responses I hardly feel qualified to make much comment. However, this much I do know. This is the enemies of Islam’s number one ally. These very divisions in the deen both on an individual and collective level -but primarily the incompetence of some of leaders – allow them to have unlimited traction against us. For many years I had trouble believing they even existed until very recently. I know I am slightly moving away from the subject and many friends council me to leave the enemies of Islam for Allah to deal with. For myself this subject comes under the first part of the saying “Tie up your camel and trust in Allah”. It seems to me that the Jews, Buddhists, Christians, etc are doing what they are supposed to be doing. the only group that isn’t is the Muslims, which brings us back to the subject. It is the divisions and lack of leadership that are our main weakness. So what causes this ? Is it the modern life which leaves us little time to study and thus learn about our way of life and live it as it’s meant to be lived? Is it the constant distractions, be it the ‘idiot box’, music (tutt, tutt) or as one brother above suggests a general lack of available scholars ?The truth probably lie’s in a little bit of everything. Which begs the question ‘How do we correct this ?’ I believe the answer is not that far away. Effort effort and more effort. Or as another idiot might say “education, education, education.”
Switch OFF your T.V set (I threw mine out of the window (literally) years ago). You will not believe how many hours this will give back to you.
Try hard to find somebody to guide you that has the qualifications TO teach. By that I mean NOT somebody who gets his/her Fiqu/Fatwa online. You will hopefully know them when you see them. Ask around.

I always get amazed by hearing that the fastest spreading Religion today in the world is Islam!

Blessed are those people who read Holy Quran and read the Sunna of Rasoolullah sallallahu alaihi wasallam without looking into the affairs of existing Ummah and embraced Islam Mashallah.

As an English Scholar once said: “Best Religion is Islam and the Worst People are Muslims!!!” So True even today.

Let me remind myself and the Ummah. Once A sahabi raziallahu anh asked Rasoolullah sallallahu alaihi wasallam; What is Deen?

Rasoolullah sallallahu alaihi wasallam answered the question in One Word. He said “Mu’amila” means Dealings.

If we ask a Muslim today what is Islam? You will be told Shahada, Five Pillars of Islam, Holy Book Quran and we may have to study thousands of pages to know all about it.

Let my life be sacrificed for Rasoolullah sallallahu alaihi wasallam upon his answer to the question in one word Muamila. What Is Muamila?

Our Dealings with Allahu Jalla Shanahoo in fulfulling His Rights. Our Dealings by fulfilling the rights of our parents, our kith and kin, our relatives, our neighbors, humanity and even animals and nature.

The Problem of Ummah today is lack of fullfillment of the above obligations, which made us the Worst People before the whole World!!!

If We set an example in our dealings most of the world shall embrace Islam. It is we who are responsible for degrading Islam and Muslims.

Again the whole of Ummah was integrated for 1400 years with the minimum of Sects prevailing right from the times of Sahaba rizwanallahum alaihim ajmaeen. All the further divisions in Ummah emerged since 150 years of time. New Translations of Holy Quran. Questioning authenticity of Ahaadeeth making them Dhaeef and not practiceable are all the latest inventions Bida’ by itself, whch was not prevailing for 1400 years. So all the present Divisions of Ummah, which is even in one’s own family is due to this reason. Who Are responsible for it?

It was the conspiracy of the enemies of Islamm to disintegrate the Ummah into many new religions and many sects by shouldering on the interpretation of Quranic Aayaats and substracting Ahaadeeth by our own so called Muslim Religious Scholars in the name of Bida’ and Shirk.

Does it mean that Ummah was committing Shirk and Bida’ for 1400 years? even the Tabieen and Tab e Tabieen who were among the next best of Ummah as declared by Rasoolullah sallallahu alaihi wasallam?
Does we have today such eminent Scholars who compiled Ahaadeeth and Framed the Sharia Laws by taking into consideration of Holy Quran and Sunnah? Does we possess all of those Ahaadeeth which were available to them in that period?

With the little available and filtered religious knowkedge the Ummah was disintegrated into so many sects and every one thinks that the sect and the Scholar he is following is only right. They even alegate that the Tabieen and Tabe taabieen are responsible for misguiding Ummah Naoozubillah and they are guiding the Ummah today towards the Right Path. Subhanallah.

What is the Result of all of it? What are the services of the many in the Muslim World? Are they fullfilling the Objectives and Goals of Islam and Muslims?.

In the last I shall say even I am responsible for this downfall of Muslims but this responsibility is proportional to the status every Muslim is holding. As per a Hadeeth of Rasoolullah sallallahu Alaihi wasallam. Muslim Religious Scholars are the one who will become servants of the Rulers and ruin the Ummah in the later period. Sadaqta Rasoolullah sallallahu alaihi wasallam.

May Allah Guide all of us towards the straight path and make us true Muslims Aameen.

A few days ago, a Muslim lady from Texas allegedly killed her two children because they were autistic and she could not handle the pressure of raising them. (Ref)

Last year, a very successful Muslim entrepreneur killed his wife because of domestic issues and now awaits trial. The entrepreneur had known to have been involved in a number of domestic violence cases earlier. (Ref)

Couple of years ago, a Muslim man killed his daughters because of them allegedly having affairs with their boyfriends. (Ref)

Other similar issues in Muslim households that involve spousal beatings, domestic violence, child abuse, elder abuse, lack of respect of parents and elders, spousal lack of respect, intergenerational conflict, teenage pregnancies, to name a few come into Islamic centers in the west almost on a regular basis.

These painful stories beg many questions – Where is the real Islam in these Muslim households allegedly perpetrated of such acts and social evils? Does the Muslim upbringing today lack adequate focus on Islamic mannerisms, morals, and etiquettes and instead focuses merely on spiritual and ritualistic aspects (praying, fasting, etc.)? What can be done to train families and individuals on Islamic etiquettes, morals, and mannerisms?

Based on general observation of increase in social evils within Muslim communities, it is safe to attribute the root cause to not investing enough in inculcating adequate Islamic etiquettes and morals. Education and knowledge in Muslim households, like others, instead focuses mostly on career building. This realm of education in today’s Muslim mind can be observed in Tony Blair’s (UK’s ex prime minister) statement where he said in an interview (reported in the Times Educational Supplement of July 5, 2002): “Education is and remains the absolute number one priority for the country because without a quality education system and an educated workforce, we cannot succeed economically.” (Ref)

No one denies the need for education that is required to advance oneself economically and for the betterment of life in general. However, knowledge and education required to instill moral values must also not be ignored. The focus today may be more towards the building of human beings into entrepreneurs, doctors, engineers and so on instead of making humans beings human. As a result, a number of us are succeeding economically but the question remains whether we are truly happy within our families, communities and societies at large?

Within the context of Islamic education, the Muslim upbringing today may be solely focused on spiritual and ritualistic aspects (praying, fasting, etc.), while ignoring the morals and values that these rituals are meant to instill in the individual in first place. We all know people who may pray five times a day and fast yet fail to epitomize good Islamic morals and etiquettes. On a smaller scale, most of us in one form or another may be guilty of maintaining double standards ourselves. We stand to pray in front of our Creator with humility yet fail to demonstrate humility to our families and other people. We may read the Quran but our character is not that of the Quran. We exercise patience in refraining from eating and drinking when fasting, yet fail to show any patience when it comes to worldly matters.

This sad state of affairs calls for the urgent learning of Islamic manners, morals and etiquettes by Muslims of all ages. Besides building the spiritual core within the young Muslims, parents must also focus on instilling Islamic values that can help guide the new Muslim’s life in these turbulent times. For those of us who didn’t get the opportunity to teach or learn those Islamic manners, we can start by reflecting the Quran and Hadith, taking the teachings, and more importantly to start applying those to our lives. A book by Imam Bukhari (Link – al Adab al Mufrad – Muslim Morals and Manners) lists more than 600 Islamic manners and morals and is an excellent source for learning Islamic morals and etiquettes.

Finally, let’s review some of the Islamic mannerisms from the life of the prophet (SAW) and sahaba. Abu Haamid al-Ghazaali in Ihya’ ‘Uloom al-Deen highlighted the prophet’s qualities, some of which are stated as follows –

o He was the most forbearing of people, the most courageous of people, the most just of people, the most chaste of people.
o He was the most modest of people and would not look anyone straight in the eye.
o He would respond to the invitations of slave and free alike, and accept a gift even if it was a cup of milk, and he would reward a person for it.
o He got angry for the sake of his Lord but he did not get angry for his own sake.
o He would adhere to the truth even if that resulted in harm for himself or his companions. He found one of the best of his companions slain in an area where Jews lived, but he did not treat them harshly or do more than hat which is prescribed by sharee’ah.
o He would accept invitations to meals, visit the sick, and attend funerals.
o He was the most humble and quiet of people without being arrogant, the most eloquent without being long-winded, the most cheerful of countenance.
o He would sit with the poor and offer food to and eat with the needy, honoring the virtuous and softening the hearts of people of status by treating them kindly.
o He upheld ties of kinship without favoring his relatives over those who were better than them, and he did not treat anyone harshly.
o He accepted the excuses of those who apologized to him; he would joke but he only spoke the truth, and he would smile without laughing out loud.
o He did not waste time without striving for the sake of Allah or doing that which was essential to better himself. He did not look down on any poor person because of his poverty or chronic sickness, and he did not fear any king because of his power.

To conclude, lets remind ourselves of what Aa’ishah (may Allah be pleased with her) said when describing the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him). It is mentioned in the lengthy story about Sa’d ibn Hishaam ibn ‘Aamir, when he came to Madeenah and went to ‘Aa’ishah and asked her about some matters. He said:

I said: O Mother of the believers, tell me about the character of the Messenger of Allah (S). She said: Do you not read the Quran? I said: Of course. She said: The character of the Prophet of Allah (S) was the Quran. I wanted to get up and not ask about anything else until I died… Narrated by Muslim (746).

Its really sad and pathetic that despite the priviledge we had of being muslims with fountain of moral guide in the Qur’an and authentic Sunnah of our Nabee Kareem, we still show tendencies that are ordinarily seen in non-muslims.

The reasons for this is simple – we have distanced ourselves from the Qur’an and authentic sunnah. Its only when we correct this before our lives will take the form of true muslims.

Belief in Allaah's Ruboobiyyah

Which means to believe that Allaah is the only Rabb without partner or a helper.

The Rabb is the One to Whom belongs the Creation, Kingdom, and Command; Their is no Creator but Allaah; No Maalik (Possessor) except Him 1, and their is no Command but His, He, Most High, says:

His is the Creation and Commandment.
[Quraan 7:54]

Allaah also said:

"Such is Allaah your Rabb; his is the kingdom. And those, whom you invoke or call upon instead of Him, own not even a Qitmeer (the thin membrane over the date stone)."2
[Quraan 35:13]

It is not known that anyone had denied that Ruboobiyaah of Allaah except an arrogant who does not believe what he says, like what happened to the Pharoah when he said to his people:

I am your Rabb, most high.
[Quraan 79:24]


O chiefs! I know not that you have an Ilaah (a god) other than me.
[Quraan 28:38]

What he said was not a matter of conviction. Allaah said:

And they belied then (the Aayaat: proofs, evidences, verses, lessons, signs, revelations, etc.) wrongfully and arrogantly, though their ownselves were convinced thereof [i.e. the Aayaat are from Allaah, and Musa is the Messenger of Allaah in truth, but they disliked to obey Musa, and hated to believe in his Message of Tawheed.]
[Quraan 16:14]

Allaah related what Musa told the Pharaoh:

(Musa) said: "Verily, you know that these signs have been sent down by none but the Rabb of the heavens and the earth as clear (evidences i.e. proofs of Allaah's Oneness and His Omnipotence etc.). And I think you are, indeed, O Pharoah doomed to destruction (away from all good)!"
[Quraan 17:102]

For this reason, the Mushrikeen (the pagan Arabs) used to acknowledge the Ruboobiyah of Allaah despite committing Shirk in His Uloohiyaah. Allaah Said:

Say: 'Whose is the earth and whosoever is therein? If you know!'
They will say: 'It is Allaah's!' Say: Will you not then remember?'
Say: 'Who is (the) Rabb of the seven heavens, and (the) Rabb of the Great 'Arsh (Throne)?'
They will say: 'Allaah.' Say: 'Will you not then fear Allaah (believe in His Oneness, obey Him, believe in the Resurrection and Recompense for each and every good or bad deed).'
Say: 'In Whose Hand is the sovereignty of everything (i.e. treasures of each and everything)? And He protects (all), while against Whom there is no protector 3. if you know.'
They will say: "All that belongs to Allaah." Say:'How then are you decieved and turn away from the truth?'
[Quraan 23:84-89]

Allaah also said:

And indeed if you ask them, "Who has created the heavens and the earth?" They will surely say: "Mighty, the All-Knower created them."
[Quraan 43:9]

He further said:

"And if you ask them who created them, they will surely say: "Allaah". How then are you turned away (from worship of Allaah Who created them)?"
[Quraan 43:87]

The Command of Ar-Rabb (Allaah) comprises both the Al-Kawnee (Universal) and the Ash-Shar'ee (Legal or Judicial) Commands. Just as He is the One Who runs the affairs of the universe, Ruling it as He wants and in accordance with what is necessitated by His Wisdom, He is also the Judge Who rules it by means of Legislations that deals with Ibaadat 4 and laws governing all forms of Mu'aamalaat 5, in conformity with His Wisdom.

So, whoever sets up a legislation besides Allaah in Ibaadaat or a judge in Mu'aamalaat commits Shirk and not ascertain the Eemaan.


1. Allaah, Most great , is the Possessor of every possessor. He permits whom He wishes to possess. Allaah possesses all the treasures of the heavens and the earth. All the good is in His Hand, He gives whom He wishes and takes from whom He wishes. Everything is in need of Allaah.

2. This great Aayah is a reminder for those who invoke upon the dead or the absent person(s) seeking help and refuge in them, that those whom you seek and call upon instead of Allaah don't possess even a Qitmeer. They cannot help themselves let alone those who call upon them. Those who seek refuge or intercession through the righteous in their graves have not correctly estimated Allaah as the One who gives and takes, the One who provides and sustains, the One who loves to be invoked Alone, etc.

3. If Allaah saves anyone none can punish or harm him, and if Allaah punishes or harms anyone none can save him. [Tafseer Al-Qurtubee, V12, p.145].

4. Ibaadat: Acts of worship done sincerely for Allaah's sake and in accordance with evidence from Quraan and (or) authentic Sunnah.

5. Mu'aamalaat: All forms of mutual relations, treatment, procedures, behaviour, conduct (towards others), and interactions including social, business, transactions, etc.

Why Calamities and Destructions are Happenning to Muslims?

Dear brothers, one question that may arise in our mind is why are these calamities, and destructions happenning to muslims. Yes, indeed the opressosrs are the wrong doers. They make destruction and kill muslims and steal their properties. On the other side, it is worth for us to look on ourselves so that we can improve our weaknesses. I would like to recite one hadith…and I don’t intend to elaborate on it. Let us hear and we judge it ourselves.

The companion ‘Abdullaah Ibn ‘Abbaas r.a., narrated that the Prophet sallallaahu ‘alaihi wa sallam said: “Five matters result when five things happen: If people break their covenant with Allaah, He will send an enemy against them; If they rule by other than the Law of Allaah, poverty will spread among them; If they become deceptive in trade, Allaah will deprive them of crops and they will be struck with famine; And if they withhold the payment of Zakaah, they will be struck with drought.”.
[At- Tabaraani]

In another narration he sallallaahu ‘alaihi wa sallam said: “If they break the covenant of Allaah and His Messenger, Allaah will send an external enemy against them who will seize some of their possessions; If they do not rule by the Book of Allaah, nor attempt to implement everything in it, Allaah will spread enmity among them.”

Conversely, obeying Allaah and His Messenger sallallaahu ‘alaihi wa sallam is the source of victory. Allaah says

“O you who have believed, if you support Allaah, He will support you [by giving you victory].”
[Surah Muhammad Ayah 7]

Indeed, Allah give victory to those who deserve it. And most of the times defeat comes from ourselves.

One night, Sa’d Ibn Abi Waqqaas, may Allaah be pleased with him, was checking on his army during the battle of Qaadisiyyah. He passed by the tent of one group of soldiers at night and found the men inside praying Qiyaam, or voluntary night-prayer, and remarked: ‘Victory comes from such a tent’ then he passed by another tent and found the men inside sleeping and remarked: ‘Defeat comes from such a tent.’ This was despite the fact that the men who were sleeping only missed a recommended prayer and not an obligatory one; yet Sa’d considered missing this recommended act to be a reason for defeat.

Let us avoid destructions, disasters and humiliation. Muslims have experienced to many appalling tragedy in their own land, It was Bosnia, and now Palestine, and tomorrow we never know whose turn.

The Prophet sallallaahu ‘alaihi wa sallam was once asked: “Would we be punished by disasters which befall us while we have righteous people amongst us?’ he sallallaahu ‘alaihi wa sallam replied: “Yes, if evil becomes widespread.” Allaah says clearly on this issue in al Quraan:

“And fear the Fitnah (affliction and trial, etc.) which affects not in particular (only) those of you who do wrong (but it may afflict all the good and the bad people), and know that Allâh is Severe in punishment".
[Surah Al-Anfaal Ayah 25]

Therefore, if Muslims truly wish for safety from destruction and given victory, then they must change and improve what is in themselves as Allaah says that which translates as:

“For each (person), there are angels in succession, before and behind him. They guard him by the Command of Allâh. Verily! Allâh will not change the good condition of a people as long as they do not change their state of goodness themselves. But when Allâh wills a people's punishment, there can be no turning back of it, and they will find besides Him no protector.”.
[Surah Ar-Ra’d Ayah 11]


Pentingnya Ilmu..

Seorang YB dari Negeri di Bawah Bayu, apabila menjawab soalan seorang pengacara, apa perlu dibuat oleh kerajaan untuk dapat mengatasi kemiskinan di Sabah, berkata:

"Kemiskinan tidak mungkin terhapus hanya dengan memberi rumah dan bantuan dari masa ke masa kepada golongan miskin. Jika satu keluarga miskin mempunyai lima orang anak, kemungkinan seorang saja yang mampu dihantar bersekolah, sementara yang empat lagi tidak bersekolah dan akan terus mewarisi kemiskinan ibu/bapa mereka. Jumlah yang miskin akan berlipat kali ganda berbanding dengan hanya satu yang mungkin akan dapat memperbaiki hidupnya".

"Jika semua rakyat mendapat peluang belajar secukupnya, baru kemiskinan akan dapat diatasi, kerana hanya dengan ilmu pengetahuan sahaja baru seseorang itu dapat mengubah nasib mereka".

(SS Mufti Negeri Perlis juga ada berkata bahawa kutipan Zakat setiap tahun di seluruh negara adalah lebih kurang RM800 juta. Jika setiap asnaf diperuntukkan RM100 juta setahun, tentu masalah kemiskinan umat Islam di Malaysia, akan dapat diatasi, InsyaAllah, tanpa perlu "BERSAMAMU" bersusah payah "mempopularkan" orang yang di dalam kususahan itu.)

Kepentingan ilmu juga amat dititik beratkan oleh Imam Besar al-Ghazali. Di dalam bukunya yang terulung, Ihya Ulumiddin (saya baru berjinak2 untuk membacanya), beliau telah membicarakan tentang kepentingan ilmu ini dengan panjang lebar pada bab permulaan buku tulisannya itu.

Professor Dr. Yusof al-Qardhawi di dalam buku Fiqh Keutamaan pula menulis bahwa ilmu mesti berdiri di hadapan perbuatan kerana ialah yang menjadi penunjuk dan pembimbing segala amalan.

Kerana keutamaan ilmu juga, Imam al-Bukhari telah mletakkan satu tajuk di dalam kitabnya yang bermaksud, "Bab: Ilmu Sebelum Perkataan dan Perbuatan".

Hadis Nabi s.a.w yang bermaksud: " Tuntutlah ilmu walau sampai ke negeri Cina". Juga membawa maksud betapa pentingnya ilmu itu dicari di dalam kehidupan ini.

Ilmu perlu dituntut, dicari, dibaca. Ia tidak datang di dalam mimpi. Tetapi orang yang berilmu akan sentiasa dicari kerana ilmunya. Wallahua'lam.

al-isra- the night journey


There are five days to the 27th of Rajab, i.e. five days to Laylatul Miâraaj. This is a good time to remember the miracles of the Blessed Night.

Al-Israâ wal-Miâraj are among the many miracles of Prophet Muhammad (P. B. B. U. H.). The miracle of al-Israâ is confirmed in the Qurâan.

In Surah al-Israâ : 1, Allah has said:

âGlorified (and Exalted) be He (Allah) [above all that (evil) they associate with Him]* Who took His slave (Muhammad ) for a journey by night from Al-Masjid-al-Haram (at Makkah) to the farthest mosque (in Jerusalem), the neighborhood whereof We have blessed, in order that We might show him (Muhammad ) of Our Ayat (proofs, evidences, lessons, signs, etc.). Verily, He is the All-Hearer, the All-Seer.â

This journey has also been confirmed in the Sahih Hadith.

**It is narrated on the authority of Anas ibn Malik (r.a.) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said:

âAl-Buraq was brought to me, and it was a white animal bigger than a donkey and smaller than a mule. One stride of this creature covered a distance as far as it could see. I rode on it and it took me to Bayt Al-Maqdis (Jerusalem), where I tethered it at the hitching post of the Prophets. Then I entered and prayed two Rakâahs there, and came out. Jibril brought me a vessel of wine and a vessel of milk, and I chose the milk.

âJibril said: âYou have chosen the Fitrah (natural instinct).â Then I was taken up to the first heaven and Jibril asked for it to be opened. It was said, âWho are you?â He said, âJibril.â It was said, âWho is with you?â He said, âMuhammad.â It was asked, âHas his Mission started?â He said, âHis Mission has started.â So it was opened for us, and there I saw Adam, who welcomed me and prayed for good for me. Then I was taken up to the second heaven and Jibril asked for it to be opened. It was said, âWho are you?â He said, âJibril.â It was said, âWho is with you?â He said, âMuhammad.â It was asked, âHas his Mission started?â He said, âHis Mission has started.â So it was opened for us, and there I saw the two maternal cousins, Yahya and âIsa, who welcomed me and prayed for good for me. Then I was taken up to the third heaven and Jibril asked for it to be opened. It was said, âWho are you?â He said, âJibril.â It was said, âWho is with you?â He said, âMuhammad.â It was asked, âHas his Mission started?â He said, âHis Mission has started.â So it was opened for us, and there I saw Yusuf, who had been given the beautiful half (half beauty of the world). He welcomed me and prayed for good for me. Then I was taken up to the fourth heaven and Jibril asked for it to be opened. It was said, âWho are you?â He said, âJibril.â It was said, âWho is with you?â He said, âMuhammad.â It was asked, âHas his Mission started?â He said, âHis Mission has started.â So it was opened for us, and there I saw Idris, who welcomed me and prayed for good for me. - then (the Prophet ) said: Allah says: âAnd We raised him to a high station.â

[Then he resumed his narrative]: âThen I was taken up to the fifth heaven and Jibril asked for it to be opened. It was said, âWho are you?â He said, âJibril.â It was said, âWho is with you?â He said, âMuhammad.â It was asked, âHas his Mission startedâ He said, âHis Mission has started.â So it was opened for us, and there I saw Harun, who welcomed me and prayed for good for me. Then I was taken up to the sixth heaven and Jibril asked for it to be opened. It was said, âWho are you?â He said, âJibrilâ. It was said, âWho is with you?â He said, âMuhammad.â It was asked, âHas his Mission started?â He said, âHis Mission has started.â So it was opened for us, and there I saw Musa, who welcomed me and prayed for good for me. Then I was taken up to the seventh heaven and Jibril asked for it to be opened. It was said, âWho are you?â He said, âJibril.â It was said, âWho is with you?â He said, âMuhammad.â It was asked, âHas his Mission started?â He said, âHis Mission has started.â So it was opened for us, and there I saw Ibrahim, who was leaning back against the Much-Frequented House (Al-Bayt Al-Ma`mur).

âEvery day seventy thousand angels enter it, then they never come back to it again. Then I was taken to Sidrat Al-Muntaha (the Lote tree beyond which none may pass), and its leaves were like the leaves [ears] of elephants and its fruits were like jugs, and when it was veiled with whatever it was veiled with by the command of Allah, it changed, and none of the creatures of Allah can describe it because it is so beautiful. Then Allah revealed that which He revealed to me. He enjoined on me fifty prayers every day and night. I came down until I reached Musa, and he said, âWhat did your Lord enjoin on your Ummahâ I said, âFifty prayers everyday and night.â He said, âGo back to your Lord and ask Him to reduce (the burden) for your Ummah, for your Ummah will not be able to do that. I tested the Children of Israel and found out how they were.â So I went back to my Lord and said, âO Lord, reduce (the burden) for my Ummah for they will never be able to do that.â So He reduced it by five. I came back down until I met Musa and he asked me, âWhat did you do?â I said, â(My Lord) reduced (my burden) by five.â He said, âGo back to your Lord and ask Him to reduce (the burden) for your Ummah.â I kept going back between my Lord and Musa, and (my Lord) reduced it by five each time, until He said, âO Muhammad, these are five prayers every day and night, and for every prayer there is (the reward of) ten, so they are (like) fifty prayers. Whoever wants to do something good then does not do it, one good deed will be recorded for him, and if he does it, ten good deeds will be recorded for him. Whoever wants to do something evil and does not do it, no evil deed will be recorded for him, and if he does it, one evil deed will be recorded for him.â

âI came down until I reached Musa, and told him about this. He said: âGo back to your Lord and ask him to reduce (the burden) for your Ummah, for they will never be able to do that.â I had kept going back to my Lord until I felt too shy.â

This version was also recorded by Muslim. Imam Ahmad recorded Anas saying that Al-Buraq was brought to the Prophet on the Night of the Israâ with his saddle and reins ready for riding. The animal shied, and Jibril said to him: âWhy are you doing this By Allah, no one has ever ridden you who is more honored by Allah than him.'â At this, Al-Buraq started to sweat.

This was also recorded by At-Tirmidhi, who said it is Gharib.

Ahmad also recorded that Anas said: âThe Messenger of Allah said: âWhen I was taken up to my Lord (during Al-Miâraj), I passed by people who had nails of copper with which they were scratching their faces and chests. I asked, âWho are these, O Jibrilâ He said, âThese are those who ate the flesh of the people [i.e., backbiting] and slandered their honorâ.â This was also recorded by Abu Dawud.

Anas also said that the Messenger of Allah said: âOn the night when I was taken on my Night Journey (Al-Israâ), I passed by Musa, who was standing, praying in his grave.â This was also recorded by Muslim.

As such, there is scholarly consensus (ijmaâ) Prophet Muhammad (P. B. B. U. H.) journeyed in BODY and SOUL on the night of al-Israâ from Masjid al-Haram in Makkah to Masjid al-Aqsain Jerusalem . Moreover, the person who denies al-Israâ is a blasphemer for belying the manifest text of the Qurâan.

Before the Prophet took this night journey, the ceiling of the house in which he was staying was opened, and Jibril descended. He cut open the chest of Prophet Muhammad and washed that open area with Zamzam water. Then he emptied something from a container into the chest of the Prophet to increase his wisdom as well as the strength of his belief. This was done to prepare the Messenger of Allah for that which he had yet to see in the upper world from among the wonders of the creation of Allah.

Imam Ahmad recorded that Anas bin Malik said that Malik bin Sasaah told him that the Prophet of Allah told them about the night in which he was taken on the Night Journey (Al-Israâ). He said:

âWhile I was lying down in Al-Hatim (or maybe, Qatadah said, in Al-Hijr) âsomeone came to me and said to his companion, âThe one who is in the middle of these three.â He came to me and opened me.â I [one of the narrators] heard Qatadah say, âsplit me - from here to here.â Qatadah said: âI said to Al-Jarud, who was beside me, âWhat does that meanâ He said, âFrom the top of his chest to below his navelâ, and I heard him say, âfrom his throat to below his navel.â

The Prophet said:

âHe took out my heart and brought a golden vessel filled with faith and wisdom. He washed my heart then filled it up and put it back, then a white animal was brought to me that was smaller than a mule and larger than a donkey.â

Some of the things that the Muhammad (P. B. B. U. H.) saw on this Blessed Night are as follows:

Allah enabled the Prophet (P. B. B. U. H.) to see the world (dunya) like an old woman. However, this old woman was wearing a great deal of jewelry, and in this there is an indication signifying the reality of the world.

Allah enabled the Prophet (P. B. B. U. H.) to see Iblees. The Prophet (P. B. B. U. H.) saw something on the side of the road which did not dare to stand in his way or speak to him. What the Prophet saw was Iblees-e-Laâeen*.

On his journey, the Prophet P. B. B. U. H.) smelled a very nice odour. He asked Jibril (a.s.) about this pleasant scent and Jibril (a.s.) informed him this good smell was coming from the grave of the woman whose duty used to be to comb Pharaohâs daughterâs hair. This woman was a good, pious believer. One day, as she was combing Pharaohâs daughterâs hair, the comb fell from her hand. At this she said, âBismillahâ. Pharaohâs daughter asked her, âDo you have a god other than my father?â The woman said, âYes. My Lord and the Lord of your father is Allah.â Pharaohâs daughter told her father what had happened. Pharaoh demanded this woman blaspheme and leave Islam, but she refused. At that, Pharaoh threatened to kill her children. He brought a great pot of water and built a great fire under it. When the water boiled, Pharaoh brought her children and started to drop them into that pot one after the other. Throughout all this, the woman remained steadfast to Islam, even when Pharaoh reached her youngest child, a baby boy still breast feeding, but she felt pity for him. At that, Allah enabled this child to speak. He said to his mother, âO Mother, be patient. The torture of the Hereafter is far more severe than the torture of this life, and do not be reluctant, because you are right.â At this the woman requested Pharaoh collect her bones and the bones of her children and bury them in the same grave. Pharaoh promised her that, then dropped her into that boiling water. She died as a martyr. The good odour the Prophet smelled coming from her grave is an indication of her high status.

During his trip, the Prophet (P. B. B. U. H.) saw people who were planting and reaping in two days. Jibril (a.s.) told the Prophet, âThese were the people who fight for the sake of Allah (mujahidun).â

The Prophet (P. B. B. U. H.) also saw people whose lips and tongues were clipped with scissors made of fire. Jibril (a.s.) told the Prophet, âThese are the speakers of sedition (fitna) who call people to misguidance. â

He also saw a bull which exited a very small outlet, then was trying in vain to return through that small outlet. Jibril (a.s.) told the Prophet (P. B. B. U. H.), âThis is the example of the bad word-once spoken, it cannot be returned.â

The Prophet (P. B. B. U. H.) saw people grazing like animals, with very little clothing on their private parts. Jibril (a.s.) told the Prophet (P. B. B. U. H.), âThese are the ones who refused to pay zakat.â

The Prophet (P. B. B. U. H.) saw angels smashing some peopleâs heads with rocks. These heads would return to the shape they had been, and then the angels would smash their heads again-and so on. Jibril (a.s.) told the Prophet (P. B. B. U. H.), âThese are the ones whose heads felt too heavy to perform prayerâthe ones who used to sleep without praying.â

On his journey the Prophet (P. B. B. U. H.) saw people who were competing to eat some rotten meat-ignoring meat that was sliced and unspoiled. Jibril (a.s.) told the Prophet, âThese are people from your nation who leave out that which is permissible (halal), and consume that which is forbidden (haram). âThis reference was to the fornicators, that is, the ones who left out the permissible (marriage) and committed sins (fornication) .

Also, the Prophet (P. B. B. U. H.) saw people who were drinking from the fluid coming from the bodies of the fornicators, (water mixed with blood). Jibril (a.s.) indicated to the Prophet these were the ones who were drinking the alcohol which is prohibited in this world.

The Prophet (P. B. B. U. H.) saw people scratching their faces and chests with brass finger nails. Jibril (a.s.) said, âThese are the examples of those who commit gossip (gheebah).â

*Originally, Iblees was a believer and lived with the angels in Paradise . When Allah ordered the angels to prostrate (sujud) to Prophet Adam (a.s.), Iblees was ordered to prostrate to him as well. The angels prostrated to Adam in obedience to Allah, because angels do not disobey Allah. However, Iblis did not obey, and he objected to the order of Allah. He said, âYou created me out of fire, and You created him out of clay. How do You order me to prostrate to him?â So this objection by Iblees to the order of Allah was the first blasphemy he committed.

10 Sebab Turunnya Rahmat Allah Ta'ala

Sesungguhnya Allah Ta'ala Maha Pemberi rahmat (kasih sayang). Bahkan sayangNya terhadap hamba-hambaNya lebih dari sayangnya seorang ibu kepada anaknya. Dengan kasih sayangNya, Dia menciptakan kita. Dengan rahmatNya, Dia memberikan rizki kepada kita. Dengan rahmatNya, Dia memberikan kesehatan kepada kita. Dengan rahmatNya, Dia memberikan makan dan minum, pakaian serta tempat tinggal kepada kita. Dengan rahmatNya, Dia menunjukkan kita kepada Islam dan Iman serta amal shalih. Dengan rahmatNya, Dia mengajarkan kepada kita apa yang tidak kita ketahui. Dengan rahmatNya, Dia memalingkan kejahatan musuh-musuh dari diri kita. Allah Ta'ala berfirman, artinya, "Sesungguhnya Allah Ta'ala membela orang-orang yang telah beriman." (QS. al-Hajj: 38).

Dengan rahmatNya, Dia menurunkan hujan dan menumbuhkan tumbuh-tumbuhan,. Dengan rahmatNya, Dia memasukkan hamba-hambaNya yang beriman dan yang beramal shalih ke dalam surga. Dengan rahmatNya, Dia menyelamatkan mereka dari neraka.Segala sesuatu semuanya adalah berkat rahmat Allah Ta'ala. Oleh karenanya seorang muslim perlu mengetahui faktor penyebab, Allah Ta'ala memberikan rahmat kepada makhlukNya, yaitu:

1. Berbuat Ihsan dalam beribadah kepada Allah Ta'ala dengan menyempurnakan ibadah kepadaNya dan merasa dimonitor (diawasi) oleh Allah Ta'ala, bahwasanya kamu beribadah kepada Allah Ta'ala, seolah-olah kamu melihatNya, maka jika kamu tidak melihatNya, sesungguhnya Dia melihatmu, dan berbuat baik kepada manusia semaksimal mungkin, baik dengan ucapan, perbuatan, harta, dan kedudukan. Allah Ta'ala berfirman, artinya, "Sesungguhnya rahmat Allah amat dekat kepada orang-orang yang berbuat baik." (QS. al-A'raf: 56)

2. Dan di antara sebab-sebab yang paling utama untuk mendapatkan rahmat Allah Ta'ala adalah bertakwa kepadaNya dan menaatiNya dengan melaksanakan perintah-perintahNya dan menjauhi larangan-laranganNya, seperti mengeluarkan zakat kepada orang-orang yang berhak menerimanya (Mustahiq), beriman dengan ayat-ayat Allah swt, dan mengikuti RasulNya. Allah Ta'ala berfirman, artinya, "Dan rahmatKu meliputi segala sesuatu. Maka akan Aku tetapkan rahmatKu untuk orang-orang yang bertakwa, yang menunaikan zakat dan orang-orang yang beriman kepada ayat-ayat Kami. (Yaitu) orang-orang yang mengikuti Rasul, Nabi yang ummi." (QS. al-A'raf: 156, 157)

3. Kasih sayang kepada makhluk-makhlukNya baik manusia maupun binatang. Rasulullah shallallahu 'alaihi wasallam bersabda, "Orang-orang yang penyayang, maka Allah Ta'ala akan menyayangi mereka (memberikan rahmat kepada mereka), sayangilah/ kasilah penduduk bumi, niscaya penduduk langit akan menyayangi kalian." (HR. Abu Daud dan at-Tirmidzi)

Dan hal itu lebih ditekankan lagi kepada orang-orang fakir dan miskin yang sangat membutuhkan. Sedangkan balasan (ganjarannya) sesuai dengan perbuatan, sebagaimana kita berbuat baik, maka kita akan mendapatkan balasan dari kebaikan tersebut.

4. Beriman, berhijrah, dan berjihad di jalan Allah Ta'ala. Allah Ta'ala berfirman, artinya, "Sesungguhnya orang-orang yang beriman, orang-orang yang berhijrah dan berjihad di jalan Allah, mereka itu mengharapkan rahmat Allah, dan Allah Maha Pengampun lagi Maha Penyayang." (QS. al-Baqarah: 218).

Maka orang-orang yang beriman selalu mengharapkan rahmat Allah Ta'ala setelah mereka melaksanakan sebab-sebab mendapatkan rahmat yaitu iman, hijrah, dan berjihad di jalan Allah Ta'ala. Adapun hijrah meliputi berpindah dari negri syirik ke negri Islam dan meninggalkan apa yang dilarang Allah Ta'ala dan RasulNya shallallahu 'alaihi wasallam, sebagaimana Rasululullah shallallahu 'alaihi wasallam bersabda, "Orang yang berhijrah adalah orang yang meninggalkan apa yang dilarang oleh Allah Ta'ala." (Muttafaq 'alaih).

Sedangkan jihad mencakup jihad melawan hawa nafsu dalam menaati Allah Ta'ala, sebagaimana yang disabdakan oleh Nabi shallallahu 'alaihi wasallam, "Orang yang berjihad adalah orang yang memerangi hawa nafsunya dalam menaati Allah Ta'ala." (HR. al-Baihaqi).

Sebagaimana jihad meliputi pula jihad melawan setan dengan menyelisihinya dan bersungguh-sungguh untuk mendurhakainya dan jihad dalam memerangi orang-orang kafir dan jihad terhadap orang-orang munafik dan pelaku-pelaku maksiat baik dengan tangan, kemudian (jika tidak mampu) dengan lisan, kemudian (jika tidak mampu juga), maka dengan hati.

5. Mendirikan shalat, menunaikan zakat, dan menaati Rasulullah Ta'ala, sebagaimana Allah Ta'ala berfirman, artinya, "Dan dirikanlah shalat, tunaikanlah zakat, dan ta'atlah kepada Rasul, supaya kamu diberi rahmat." (QS. an-Nur: 56).

6. Berdo'a kepada Allah Ta'ala untuk mendapatkannya dengan bertawasul dengan nama-namaNya yang Maha Pengasih (ar-Rahman) lagi Maha Penyayang (ar-Rahim) atau yang lainnya dari nama-namaNya yang Agung/ Indah, seperti kamu mengatakan, "Ya Rahman Wahai Yang Maha Penyayang), sayangilah aku (rahmatilah aku), ya Allah sesungguhnya aku memohon kepada-Mu dengan rahmatMu yang luas yang meliputi segala sesuatu agar Engkau mengampuni dosaku dan menyayangiku. Sesungguhnya
Engkau Maha Pengampun lagi Maha Penyayang." Allah Ta'ala berfirman, artinya, "Wahai Tuhan kami berikanlah rahmat kepada kami dari sisiMu dan sempurnakanlah bagi kami petunjuk yang lurus dalam urusan kami (ini)." (QS. al-Kahfi: 10).

Dan Allah Ta'ala juga berfirman, artinya, "Hanya milik Allah asma`u al-Husna, maka bermohonlah kepadaNya dengan menyebut asma`u al-Husna itu." (QS. al-A'raf: 180).

Maka hendaklah seseorang memohon setiap permintaannya dengan nama yang sesuai dengan permintaannya itu untuk mendapatkannya. Allah Ta'ala berfirman, artinya, "Dan Tuhanmu berfirman, 'Berdo'alah kepadaKu, niscaya akan Kuperkenankan bagimu'." (QS. al-Mu'min: 60).

Dan firman Allah Ta'ala lainnya, artinya, "Dan katakanlah, 'Ya Tuhanku berilah ampun dan berilah rahmat, dan Engkau adalah Pemberi rahmat Yang Paling baik." (QS. al-Mu'minun: 118).

Sungguh Allah Ta'ala telah menyuruh (kita) berdo'a dan menjamin ijabah (mengabulkan do'a tersebut) dan Dia Maha Suci yang tidak pernah mengingkari janji.

7. Mengikuti al-Qur`an al-Karim dan mengamalkannya. Allah Ta'ala berfirman, artinya, "Dan Al-Qur`an itu adalah kitab yang Kami turunkan yang diberkati, maka ikutilah dia dan bertakwalah agar kamu diberi rahmat." (QS. al-An'am: 155).

8. Menaati Allah Ta'ala dan RasulNya shallallahu 'alaihi wasallam sebagaimana yang telah dijelaskan sebelumnya. Allah Ta'ala berfirman, artinya, "Dan taatilah Allah dan Rasul, supaya kamu diberi rahmat." (QS. Ali 'Imran: 132).

9. Mendengarkan dan memperhatikan dengan tenang ketika dibacakan al-Qur`an al-Karim. Allah Ta'ala berfirman, artinya, "Dan apabila dibacakan Al-Qur`an, maka dengarkanlah baik-baik, dan perhatikanlah dengan tenang agar kamu mendapat rahmat." (QS. al-A'raf: 204).

10. Istighfar, memohon ampunan dari Allah Ta'ala. Allah Ta'ala
berfirman, artinya, "Hendaklah kamu meminta ampun kepada Allah, agar
kamu mendapat rahmat." (QS. an-Naml: 46).

Fact- Fewer than half of Minnesota’s children enter kindergarten fully prepared.

Fact- For every dollar spent on early childhood education, the return is 12-fold. This is figured on the additional financial strain on society for special tutoring, probation, court services, law enforcement, chemical dependency counseling, and incarceration.

“Early childhood education is one of the most important investments we can make in our society today. The earlier we begin reading to our children, and start providing them with the basic fundamentals of education, the better off we will all be,” former State Sen. Duane Benson told a group of about 40 Houston County educators and business leaders.

Benson, who is the executive director of the Minnesota Early Learning Foundation (MELF), was the key note speaker at an informational brunch hosted by the Houston County Early Childhood Initiative Thursday morning at the Four Seasons Community Center in Caledonia. As Minnesota continues to become more diversified, the need for early childhood education becomes that much greater.

Benson told the group that the United States is under-investing in early childhood development, which actually diminishes our nation’s ability to compete in the global marketplace. Research confirms the huge long-term economic payoffs from investments in quality early childhood development programs.

The idea for a state-wide agency to promote early childhood education was born in 2001 when six separate initiative foundations saw the need for an organization that could champion early childhood education on a broader scale. In 2003 the Minnesota Early Childhood Initiative was formed, thanks to a $3.2 million grant from the McKnight Foundation. The grant leveraged funding from other corporations and foundations, and was followed by a second $3 million grant from the McKnight Foundation in 2006.

Houston County’s Early Childhood Initiative (ECI) was also formed in 2003 with support from the Southern Minnesota Initiative Foundation. The local ECI is comprised of parents, business people, educators, childcare professions, and community members with a wide range of backgrounds.

The Houston County ECI provides county-wide infant screenings, supports kindergarten readiness programs, provides professional childcare training and has undertaken an ongoing public awareness campaign about the importance of quality early care and education.

Mary Zaffke of the Houston County Public Nursing Department told the group about the importance of screening infants between the ages of four and six months.

“If infants are having developmental problems at four to six months, they will have more issues down the road. It is so important to detect these problems as soon as possible, so they can be addressed right away,” Zaffke explained.

Zaffke noted between 30 to 35 percent of the families invited to the screens actually attend them. And of those who attend, 100 percent felt they did have concerns about their babies.

Representatives from the La Crescent-Hokah School District gave a short presentation on “Kindergarten Kamp” they held last summer to bring children preparing for their first year of school up to speed.

Mary Lou Busta also provided information as to some of the recent activities of the early childhood education programs in both the Caledonia and Spring Grove school districts.

Getting parents involved is of paramount importance, according to Benson. Even before birth, both the mother and father should begin reading to their child. And they need to continue nurturing that child after he or she begins school.

“Once a child begins school, that doesn’t mean the education system takes over,” Benson cautioned. “We should not become a ‘nanny state,’ as Newt Gingrich said. Parents, and that means both the mother and father, need to be involved all the way through their school years.”

In its Minnesota School Readiness Study, the Minnesota Department of Education stated, “school readiness is not just ready children. It includes ready families, ready schools and ready communities. A ready family includes adults who understand they are the most important people in the child’s life and take responsibility for the child’s school readiness through direct, frequent and positive involvement and interest in the child.”

“These kids are our future. We need to do everything possible to make their start a positive one. That is what we are all about,” Benson concluded.
