The irony, of course, is that the US first hired Saddam as an assassin, and when he failed at that he was groomed to be a dictator. The US assisted him in his rise, armed him to his teeth, provided components for WMDs and even provided spy satellite intelligence to target the Kurds with poison gas. And when the US put forward a resolution condemning Saddam from using poison gas weapons... the US vetoed it. Saddam was declared the US government's "best friend" by Donald Rumsfeld who was photographed shaking Saddam's hand as he told him this, and it was only when Saddam quit cooperating with the US oil agenda that he became a bad guy.

Deceptions are nothing new either... when they paraded a young Kuwaiti woman in front of congress who sobbed and tearfully testified how Saddam's soldiers were "taking babies out of incubators and left on the cold floor to die." Turns out the sobbing girl was actually the Kuwaiti ambassador's own daughter and it was all fabricated to convince congress to agree to invade Iraq in the Gulf War.

So, whatever Saddam was... he was a US product, and the US lied to put him there, and then lied to take him out. Meanwhile tens of thousands of Iraqis died, and thousands of Americans as well. I'd say the US has Saddam trumped on appearing more sinister or resembling infamous villains from history.
