By partitioning the island, Great Britain left a festering sore in the northern part of Ireland. Instead, Britain catered to the Orange Order when they should have offered to settle any Ulster resident unhappy with the newly independent Ireland, in Great Britain. This whole issue is unsettled to the present day. This nonsense of religious division is an excuse. The Republic of Ireland has religious freedom and there are many Protestants in that country. Having visited both the Irish Republic and Northern Ireland I can tell you that things are very mellow in the Irish Republic and very uptight in Northern Ireland. I've never seen so many Union Jacks flying as I did in Northern Ireland as well as the Red Hand of Ulster flag. The Orange Order get's its jollies by marching in Catholic areas and flying their flags in the faces of the Catholic residents. Small wonder that Northern Ireland is like a dormant volcano, always ready to erupt.
