"Nor should we neglect Gaddafi's most outrageous crime against America and the West. On December 21, 1988, Pan-Am Flight 103 was destroyed by a bomb over Lockerbie, killing 243 mainly American and British passengers, 16 crew and 11 people in the town below. In February this year, the former Libyan justice minister Mustafa Abdel-Jalil confirmed what everyone has always known all along: that Gaddafi personally ordered the attack." If the new defector had told this story first, he could have gotten immunity, from the British. Just because he says so...During the Iran-Iraq war, in the course of helping Saddam Hussein, our airforce shot down an Iranian passenger jet. Looking for revenge, the Iranians followed the practice, customary in that part of the world, and contracted out the retaliation to Syria. Syrian intelligence found two moonlighting Libyan agents and further "contracted out" the task. That's why Khadafy held out so long. Yes they were Libyan agents, no it wasn't a hit staged on behalf of Libya. (Yes, he sprung one of the agents--every country tries to free its citizens held in foreign jails--think of our drug dealers captured in Turkey and Malaysia--"let them serve their sentences in U.S. jails", etc.). He tried to rally Arab League support, but they weren't about to help the self-styled new Nasser/Leader of all the Arabs. That's when he began orienting himself to Africa (now he's the self-styled King of Kings of Africa), and, ultimately, he made a cash settlement over Lockerbie and patched things up with the U.S., to break out of isolation.
