There are things you will never hear about Gaddhafi:
1) He is the last Africanist remaining, and that infuriates some people,
2) He is hated by other Muslim countries because he is NOT a fundamentalist, neither does he impose Sharia,
3) He gave more financial and moral support to end apartheid in South Africa that anybody else,
4) He had built his country and maintained unemployment at very low levels,
5) He DOES NOt condone mistreatment of women; only leader with female-only security detail.I would like to know first why the people on here complaining about spending overseas are doing so now, and if they had the same opinion before the Iraq invasion. Second I would like to know why having the members of the anti-qudaffi movement praising and thanking the west for the air support that means that they secretly hate America.
One final point, Colin Powell (pre-WMD) made a comment 'America cannot be the world police, but who does the world turn to when they need a sheriff?' which I think is applies very well to this situation, not so much the other decade long "wars" that we are engaged in still (officially neither Afghanistan nor Iraq were ever formally declared wars by congress, hence the "" around wars)
