1982 Israeli War Against Lebanon

Beirut – “ The Jewel Of The Mediterranean “

The Paris Of The Mideast

The Cradle Of Humanity
The Mid-East is considered the cradle of humanity. Lebanon, one of the Mideast's oldest nations, presently is divided into three groups: - Christian Maronites, Sunni Muslims, and Shiite Muslims. Beirut, Lebanon's capitol, is a magnificent city, referred to as the 'Paris of the Mid-East'.
The Mid-East was a quiet Muslim and Christian region until the 1946 immigration of Eastern European and Russian Jews, who turned the Mid-East turned into the 'Killing Fields'.
This is the story of the 1982 Israeli war called "Peace for Gallilee".

The 1975 Civil War
Israel fomented a civil war to divide the nation and allow it an opportunity to install the rulers. In 1976, the Arab League intervened to stop the bloodshed, and authorized Syria to send 40,000 troops to keep the Christians and Muslims from killing each other.
War Pitted Christians Against Muslims
The Christian Maronites are approx. 30% of Lebanon, and are Israeli allies.
Bashir Gemayel was the 33 year-old Maronite leader, who Israel promised they install to be Lebanon's President.

Reasons For Invasion

Israel said that the PLO was shelling Northern Israel, but the real reason was that the Israelis feared an alliance between the Lebanese Muslims, the Palestine refugees, and Syria.

The Border Wasn't in Danger
Between August 1981 and May 1982, the PLO maintained a truce, sponsored by the United States and Saudi Arabia, on Lebanon's southern border. Israel violated the truce 2,777 times.

Israel's London Ambassador Shot
Zionists say the June 3rd, 1982 shooting, was the catalyst for the June 5th attack. Abu Nidal's 'Black September.', a Mossad false-flag terror group, was behind the shooting. This piece of Israeli propaganda was laughed at by the international community.

Reagan Gives The OK For The 1982 Invasion

Reagan, a Hollywood actor and political novice, gave Israel the OK to eliminate the PLO. He told the American public that Israel would only go 30 miles inside the southern border.

Syria wasn't even part of the battle until Israel attacked their Anti-Aircraft batteries.
The devastation of the Syrian air defense system, and the decimation of the Syrian Air Force, provided the IDF with total air superiority in Lebanon, and left the Syrian infantry exposed to air attack.

June 6th, 1982 - The Invasion
On June 6, 1982 , Israel begins the attack. Initially, they said they wanted to drive the PLO from the borders.
In Lebanon, Israel had four declared strategic objectives:
  • to destroy PLO forces in Lebanon.
  • to run Syrian troops out of Lebanon.
  • to help Christian forces seize Beirut and base a stable and pro-Israeli Christian government in Lebanon.
  • to ensure peace and tranquility to Israel’s northern settlements.

Israel Attacked On Three Fronts

The Israelis pulled a sneak attack on Syria's air defense batteries in the Bekaa valley. Syria fought back and lost 40 planes.
The Lebanese army did nothing, the PLO was light resistance, and the Syrians fought a couple of battles, but signed a truce on June 11th.
By June 13th, Israel and Bashir Gemayel's Christian Maronites had Beirut surrounded.

The 70-Day Siege Of Beirut
From July 13 to August 28, Ariel Sharon decided to lay  siege to Beirut. With a normal siege, the city's defenders fight back when the aggressors enter the city. The Israelis didn't want to lose any of their soldiers, so they never used infantry.
The siege consisted of Israeli bombardment from the air, land, and sea, with limited ground attacks into the city. Israel's navy committed most of its small fleet to a blockade and provided naval gunfire as needed. Israel's air force conducted thousands of sorties on Beruit.

Israel Claims They Only Want The PLO
In the most brutal siege in modern history, Israel kills 30,000 civilians, in a massacre using army, naval and air power, to bomb schools, orphanages, and hospitals.

In 67 days, Israel, using ground, naval, and air forces, as well as anti-personnel shells, butchered over 30,000 civilians, maimed 40,000, chased 500,000 out of Beirut, and destroyed the city.

Reagan And Kissinger
Their stance was that Israel was justified, and that the nation was just protecting itself.
Cluster bombs: - Each cluster bomb is composed of 200 to 700 bomblets – which shoot out in all directions. Each one has a little parachute that looks like an inverted umbrella.
Fuel Air Bombs: - The fuel cloud descends to the ground, where it is ignited by an embedded detonator, to produce what U.S. war criminals call "an impressive explosion"

Phosphorous Bombs: -
The bomb explodes, sending out a spray of chemicals that ignite when they come in contact with living tissue.

Napalm: - A spray of jellied gasoline.

Booby Trap Toys: - Israeli airplanes dropped booby-trapped toys.

Siege Ends On August 21
Thirty percent of Beirut is turned to rubble, and half the population leaves.
Dead And Maimed
  • 30,000 Dead Civilians
  • 5,000 Syrian personnel
  • 35,000 Maimed Civilians
  • 3,000 PLO Fighters
  •  3,200 PLO Families
  • 297 Israeli personnel

PLO Withdraws
In August, Israel agrees to let the PLO escape under the protection of a Multi-National Force comprising of 800 U.S. Marines, 800 French troops, and 400 Italian troops. The Palestinian exodus ended on September 3rd. The 14,614 PLO fighters left Beirut with guns blazing in the air in defiance.
Reagan's Guarantee
Reagan tells the PLO: ~ "If you go to Tunisia, the US will protect your families."

September 12
Israel kept its promise and Bachir Gemayel became Lebanon's President. On September 14th, Gemayel, as well as 25 of his staff, were killed when a massive bomb took out their headquarters.
September 14
His enraged followers killed the PLO's 3000 women and children in two refugee camps.

Sabra and Shatilla
On the evening of September 16, 1982, the IDF, having surrounded the Palestinian refugee camps of Sabra and Shatilla, dispatched approximately 350 Christian militiamen into the camps, to rout what was believed to be the remnant of the Palestinian forces.

February 1983 - Reagan Shells Beirut

President Reagan had the USS New Jersey, sitting offshore, fired shells into these towns.
Chronology of US Marines in Lebanon.

October 23,1983

240 Marines kill in Beirut.
Israel admits prior knowledge, but many suspect direct involvement by Israeli intelligence.

Aftermath

The U.S. involvement in Israel's 1982 war destroyed what little credibility that nation had in the Mid-East, cost American taxpayers billions plusm almost 300 U.S. Marine lives lost, but left Israel still occupying southern Lebanon.
Beirut is still rebuilding 20 yearrs later. In 2004, Israel assassinated the Lebanon Prime Minister Rafiq Hariri.

The World Community Just Stood There And Watched
Israel simply attacked Syria and Lebanon. For 70 days it laid Siege to Beirut. It used cluster bombs, napalm, artillery, phosphorous bombs, etc.
Israel massacred 3,000 women, and children, in two refugee camps. Israel, which is the most barbaric country of modern times,  is still supported by America.
