Redlands Blvd., Suite U Redlands, CA 92373 Situation and charges: Professor Kerri Dunn has been accused of crimes associated with the vandalization of her own car. These are criminal charges that are based on the following events: Kerri Dunn is a passionate and outspoken advocate against human hate, especially racism, anti-Semitism and homophobia. She has been a featured speaker at numerous forums promoting topics on diversity and women’s rights. Her advocacy and the hate-based acts of racism that have occurred on the Claremont College campuses in fall 2003 and early 2004 (such as a cross burning on campus), have led to her recent legal conflict. Following these recent acts of racism on campus, Professor Dunn asked her students why they were not taking a more active role in responding to the negativity of these acts of racism. She pointed out that the students targeted by these offensive and harmful acts were the members of their community. She encouraged her students to post signs on campus promoting an anti-hate and pro-diversity environment at Claremont College. On Tuesday, March 9, Professor Dunn spoke at a forum addressing racism, worked in her office for a while and was scheduled to address a second forum on another campus at 8 PM. When she arrived at her car in the school parking lot, Professor Dunn found her car severely vandalized. Upon her inspection, she found the tires punctured, windows smashed and racial, ethnic and gender epithets painted on the car. She immediately went for help at the women’s forum where another woman called the police. Two witnesses later came forward and claim to have seen Professor Dunn puncture her own tires. The police cannot find evidence to implicate any other suspects and now Professor Dunn herself has become the only suspect of the vandalism to her car and faces both felony and misdemeanor charges. She has quickly run up legal bills as she defends her integrity as an educator and an innocent woman. People who know her as a passionate advocate for people of all races, ethnicities, gender and sexual orientation understand that her integrity would preclude commission of such an act. Professor Dunn does not have the financial resources to pay for her defense. Please show your support for her by helping her fight these false charges. Your contribution will also help counter the agenda by some on the Claremont campus who want to create the belief that racism and racist acts at Claremont Colleges are a myth.
