SeeBothSides:

First off, I don't think that anyone "happily" shows the death toll in the war.
Second, you make it sound like a video game, and that we're keeping score to see who wins. This isn't a video game. Every one of those deaths is a real person. The way you talk dishonors them.
Third, many newspeople are still keeping an overall tally of the deaths in Afghanistan and Iraq.
Fourth, the fact that your newspaper stopped isn't because of an action by Obama. Obama has increased the visibility of soldiers' deaths. When Bush was in office, he had measures in place intended to conceal war deaths. He banned the filming of caskets being unloaded (even when the fallen soldier's family wanted this filmed). Obama allows a casket's unloading to be filmed with the family's approval, because many families feel that broadcasting this footage honors the fallen soldiers.U.S. has been at war forever with this country or another, on one pretext or another. Do you even realize it?
