Living under the Chinese government is remarkably free. However, one thing that is incredibly annoying is the way the government censors and blocks certain portions of the internet for the benefit of state-owned media companies. A lot of the censoring that is claimed by the western media to be politically motivated is actually done for commercial reasons. China blocks the foreign sites and creates its own copycat solution so the money stays within China. For example, they have their own version of youtube, their own version of google, their own version of skype. Smart for business, bad for the free market, and for providing the most competitive services to the people. In the end, China gets richer and richer, and that's why the people are largely supportive of the government - even it it appears to us that the government's policies are unacceptable.
