I have read a numbr of responses from neo-con supporters stating, to the effect, that even though WMDs were not found, we needed to go to war in Iraq because Saddam was a monster and murdered his own people. No one would disagree- EXCEPT, he was the bully on the block and represented a balance of power with Iran and other nations in the neighborhood that would rush in to fill the void if he were taken out. ... which he was; which they did. One could try to say that we fulfilled the moral good, but oil was why we were there, plain and simple. We did NOT go to the aid of Cambodians when Pol Pot murdered over a milllion of his countrymen; we did NOT go to Zaire when Idi Amin murdered over a million of his countrymen; Pappa and Bay Doc Dulavier in Haiti? The murderers in, Bhurma, Sudan, Ethopia, Somalia, Angola, or Sierra Leon? Nope. The U.S. stayed out because these were sovereign issues in a foreign country that presented no eminent danger to the U.S. - just as Iraq preesented no eminent danger to the U.S.... BUT, Iraq has oil. Consider Bush and Cheney's background. Consider the "no-bid" contracts awarded to Halliburton BEFORE we ever stepped foot on Iraqi soil. It was all a set up, and Bush, Cheney, Rumsfeld, Rove, Libby, Ashcroft, Wolfowitz, Gonzales and Powell ALL have blood on their hands because of the lie that was crafted to dupe the American people.
You may end up in jail, Colin, but the TRUTH will set you free.
