Our military is stretched to the breaking point. We have 100,000 troops in Iraq and 50,000 troops in Afghanistan. We have troops stationed all over the world,South Korea 35,000 and almost 50,000 troops in various European country's. We do not have a draft and because of our "commitments" all over the world to act as policeman to the world, it is one of the reasons our economy is failing. If European interests are threatened by events in Libya then it is European countries that have to solve their own mess. They are always (at least in public) telling us how we should not be the policeman of the world. I for one think that we should take them up on their "advice" and let them do what they have to do and leave us out of what is a losing situation. If the current regime in Libya is kicked out by a popular uprising, what makes the west or the USofA think that the new rulers will be more friendly? It is more likely that a new strongman will take over and his interests may be at odds with our national policy and needs. When the Euro eclipsed the dollar in value the Europeans were crowing over the fact that they had reached a milestone and that they had become a force to be reckoned with on the international stage. If so let them act like the power they think they are. As for us, we have to keep ourselfs from going broke as a nation. Continious envolvement in regional conflicts, civil wars and various national movements will only cause us to go broke that much sooner. We are loosing the war against terror because we are stretched to thin and devoting more and more resource in a attempt to stem a idea. The only way we can win a war of ideas is by education and the application of force when we are directly attacked or our legitamite interests are at stake. To bad for us that our defined interests are predicated on the needs of allies that for the most part are not working with us and in a lot of cases working against us. We have to get off of dependence on oil from areas of the world that are either unstable or unfriendly. Better we overthrow Chavez in SA then get envolved with libya.
