Like it or not, Gadhafi is still pretty popular with the general population of Lybia. The rebels (and the world for that matter) thought that Gadhafi was vastly unpopular, which has since proven to be false. And the more the US and the world involve ourselves in Lybia the more popular support Gadhafi will gather from the people there.
