LABIS, Jan 28 (Bernama) -- The statement by PAS spiritual leader Datuk Nik Aziz Nik Mat, who described those who do not vote for PAS as 'jahiliah' or ignorant, has offended all Muslims in the country.
Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin said, Nik Aziz had abused Islam by issuing various 'fatwa' or edicts which contradicted the religion according to the circumstances and time.
"The statement by Nik Aziz ridicules us merely because we don't support PAS. Is Nik Aziz labelling all the voters in Labis as ignorant?" he asked reporters at a media conference at the Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Kamarul Ariffin, on Friday.
According to Muhyiddin, who is also the Education Minister, the label 'jahiliah' against those who did not vote for PAS should not have been uttered by someone who was said to be the Spiritual Leader and addressed as 'ustaz'.
Nik Aziz, who is also the Kelantan Menteri Besar, was said to have used the word 'jahiliah' at a media conference in Kampung Redong yesterday, while campaigning for the Tenang by-election.
The Deputy Prime Minister said Nik Aziz had issued various deviationist edicts including stating that PAS supporters could not consume any meat slaughtered by Umno members.
"But in the Tenang state constituency, we see that PAS people are eating in shops run by Umno members," he said, adding that Nik Aziz had also issued a fatwa prohibiting women to become candidates in the general election.
He called on the Muslims not to be trapped by the deviationist edicts issued by Nik Aziz.
When asked about the BN chances of winning the Tenang by-election with a bigger majority, Muhyiddin said campaigning for the by-election was showing encouraging developments.
Polling for the Tenang state seat will be held on Sunday following the death of the incumbent Assemblyman, Datuk Sulaiman Taha, on Dec 17 last year.
The by-election will see a straight fight between the Barisan Nasional candidate, Mohd Azahar Ibrahim, and Normala, who was also a former teacher.
tunku : there's nothing new with nik aziz's fake and misleading "fatwas". every time there's election he will come out with new misleading fatwas.he think that only those who follow him is in the right path and will go to heaven.this is completely against the true Islamic teaching.he is preaching his own religion and it is not Islam.now he don't talk anymore about Islamic nation, hudud etc because his big brother dap is not happy about it.have we heard he commenting on the recent liquor issue in selangor? the answer is no.he is senile old man and his brain is not functioning well.
Normala's Husband Needs To Be Honest And Responsible - Hishammuddin
LABIS, Jan 28 (Bernama) -- The action of Ma'arof Abd Mutalib, husband of the PAS candidate for the Tenang by-election, Normala Sudirman, who took medical leave to help his wife campaign instead of fulfilling his responsibility as a teacher, was reproached Friday.
Umno vice-president Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Tun Hussein said he (Ma'arof) should not have taken medical leave to shirk his responsibility for another matter.
"We don't blame him for taking a medical certificate (MC) if it is for valid reason, we never restricted this before (days when he was Education Minister).
"How can he be considered sick when we see him actively campaigning for his wife. People have a high regard for the responsibility and trust given to teachers," he told reporters here Friday.
He was commenting on Ma'arof's action, who was reported by a blog and several newspapers Friday to have been on 21-day medical leave this month.
The blog alleged that Ma'arof took two days of medical leave on Jan 6 and 7 from Pusat Perubatan Keluarga in Jalan Segamat, near here, followed by another two weeks starting Jan 10 to 23 issued by Klinik Kesihatan Bandar Putra, Segamat, and five more days from the same clinic.
Meanwhile, Hishammuddin, who is also Home Minister, said currently no serious incidents had occurred throughout the campaign period in Tenang which started after the nomination day on Jan 22.
However, he expected various sensitive and racial issues to be played up by certain quarters towards the end of the campaigning period, of which there are two days left, before polling on Sunday.
tunku : does he look like he's sick or in deep depression? he is a teacher and he took mc for more than 20 days.what about his students? did he ever think about them.how can a sick person who took mc working with the government can be fit to campaign for his wife for more than 15 hours a day for 10 days? where is the integrity, responsibility as a teacher and as a government servant here?he should resign asap. the ministry have to take action against him no matter what.otherwise we will see more of this scenario in the future. if he is really sick he should stay at home.

Mukhriz hits out at Guan Eng, Azmin
ALOR SETAR, Jan 27 — Deputy International Trade and Industry Minister Datuk Mukhriz Mahathir ticked off the opposition parties today for refusing to recognise the successes of the government in attracting billions of ringgit in foreign investment.
He said the opposition parties had instead continued to discredit the government and harp on the issue of illicit financial outflows.
“How could they discredit the country. Are they qualified to lead the country?” he told reporters when asked to comment on the report by Global Financial Integrity, a Washington-based financial watchdog, which ranks Malaysia as among the countries which registered the highest illicit financial outflows over a period of nine years in the last decade.
He earlier met the Chinese community in Air Hitam in conjunction with the coming Chinese New Year.
He also ticked off Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng, saying Lim had claimed credit for the RM12 billion investments by two American companies in Penang.
“We know that Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak and International Trade and Industry Minister (Datuk Mustapa Mohamed) had met with the two companies to bring them to invest in Malaysia,” he said.
To a question, he described Parti Keadilan Rakyat deputy president Mohamed Azmin Ali as rude and ungrateful.
Mohamed Azmin, in speech when debating the Selangor state constitution amendment on Monday, had called Dr Mahathir “mamak bendahara” — a term that refers to senior official in old Malay kingdoms. — Bernama
tunku : the morons in pakatan always take the credits from bn's effort. like in penang, it is so obvious that the investors came in thru the federal government initiative and the moron guan eng claims to the people it was his effort. we hope the federal government release a list of investors came in thru their effort so that these morons won't simply take the credits.recently the amcham too said that they are investing more because of the federal government policies not the state's government policies like selangor and penang. regarding azmin what else can be said about him. a person that can "give" his wife to his boss can do anything for personal gain. he is an ungrateful piece of ****.

No Hudud if Pakatan takes over federal government
Hudud not first priority for PAS, says sec-gen
LABIS, Jan 26 — PAS has pledged that it will not implement hudud if Pakatan Rakyat (PR) takes over the federal government although it will not budge from pushing for Islamic policies.
Its secretary-general Datuk Mustafa Ali said this today in Tenang, Johor where MCA has made the Islamic state pursued by PAS a major issue for the January 30 polls.
“Even if PAS had absolute power with two-thirds majority in Parliament, the first thing that PAS will do is not hudud,” he said in a press conference this morning.
Mustafa said that it could not implement hudud immediately upon taking over the federal government as there were preconditions such as economic justice, minimum wage and punishing rulers if poor people had to steal before the laws could be introduced.
He added that hudud was not in the Pakatan Rakyat (PR) Common Policy Framework.
MCA president Datuk Seri Dr Chua Soi Lek has attacked PAS’s Islamic state policy in the Tenang campaign, where he was reported to have said that voting for Normala was voting for an Islamic state.
The former health minister had said that even though DAP was an ally in PR, it could not stop PAS from continuing its Islamic state policies.
“If PR wins at the federal level, I feel that it is not possible. PAS will be the leader as the party with more resources as compared to DAP and PKR,” Dr Chua said.
Mustafa said that Barisan Nasional (BN) was trying to play up racial sentiments to create animosity between the voters and PR.
tunku : so i guess this should be the official statement to all pas followers that they have been fooled all these while that pas is going to uphold Islamic state and introduce the syariah laws.it's confirmed now that pas is not interested in implementing it just to get some extra votes.pas has sold their struggle to dap for free.
