The Electric Car
We’ve come a long way
Humble roots
From the mid 1800s, to the bumping early 1900s, electric cars were the leaders of the automobile industry. Back when gasoline driven vehicles came in, they were actually the electric car’s ugly step sister as they needed a good cranking to start the engine (further propelling the electric car to be sold as the perfect vehicle for females as it didn’t need brute strength to run). But soon, gasoline cars were to take over the industry through their larger array of shiny vehicular options, frequent gas stations, and quicker refuelling times. Even nowadays, just a tiny cell phone takes 3 hours to charge, so imagine how long it would have taken to refuel an electric car back when light bulbs were the new craze.
It’s alive!
With the push for lowering carbon emissions, the electric car, as it has already done several times in its history, has come back from the dead. Even GM, who crushed the electric revolution back in the early 1900s by buying out all the electric infrastructure and replacing it with gas fueled alternatives, is coming out with their own version to compete in today’s automotive industry, geared towards economy rather than luxury.
As the electric car makes it’s shaky return, with car companies investing into research to improve battery life, and reduce recharging times, new ideas are coming out as to how to integrate this high maintenance car into our lives.
WPS has come up with the concept for charging while you shop by combining parking lots with charging centers. The idea here is to be able to pay for your car being charged at the same terminal where you pay for your parking...from...http://thetransportationgazette.com/2010/07/the-electric-car/
