The Pan-American Highway (Carretera Panamericana in Spanish) runs across the entire western edge of Peru, from the Ecuadorian border in the north to Chile in the south. From Lima, many travelers head south along the highway to tourist hotspots such as Nazca and Arequipa before cutting inland to Cusco and Lake Titicaca.
Head north from Lima and you can follow the highway as it snakes across the coastal desert landscapes of Northern Peru, a region of historic port towns, pre-Inca ruins, expansive beaches and rich traditions.
