Saffron was born in Sydney in 1919, and by 1940 he was running clubs
for visiting servicemen. Mr Big of Australian crime. By 1950 he
owned the West End Hotel, Westdale Hotel, Cumberland, Gladstone and Albert
Hotels. He had been arrested on theft, liquor infractions, 1952 perjury,
