Hey, $1 billion is too little. I say about $10 trillions is just about right. We invaded their country, killed their president and people, destroyed their homeland, and raped their women, just for the fun of training our military men and women. $1 billions is too little for liability cost. The US should pay the Iraq people USD 100 billions for devastating the whole country and created unending chaos and killings since the invasion. Saddam should be given the Nobel Peace Prize for managing to keep the different groups living in peace. Period.Powell is responsible for his decisions. To play the blame game now is ridiculous. He should have spoken out when like so many of us realized, Iraq had zero, nada, zilch to do with 9/11". That's the point. they lied to him about EVERYTHING, because they knew as a former soldier he was a steadfast, unquestioning, dedicated and loyal subordinate. Traits you never lose after making the military a career, even when you become a civilian. I am also retired military so I know this to be true. They exploited this discreet dedication as well as his immense popularity at the time to shamefully get what they wanted. Period! And as any administration secretary, Powell served at the pleasure and discretion of the President, and was simply being the loyal obedient SOS he was supposed to be, but ironically his discipline and military honor rendered him just naive enough to think that those he trusted above him were smarter than this. He mistakenly and surely regretfully now, assumed they were real adults and serious enough to not lie about something this consequential to the world and potentially dangerous for so many lives on all sides. In fact I would venture to guess that if you or I were in Powel’s shoes we'd likely do the same thing upon being lied to by the president or VP of all people. And you know it.
