Since it's only the media that seem to be pushing for military intervention in Libya, let them fight it.
General Geraldo can lead the MSNBC Brigade while ABC and NBC choppers give air support-LOL.I believe we are already in Libya in some way. Just look how good those rebels fight against Gaddafi's forces. It couldn't be done without outside help.So what should the U.S. do about it? Absolutely nothing (at least nothing without a public show of unanimous support by the Arab League).
Obama has already gone further than he should have by publicly calling for Qaddafi to leave. Libya is only of interest to the U.S. because of 1) oil, 2) terrorism, and 3) WMD. By all accounts, Qaddafi gave up international terrorism at least 15 years ago and he gave up his WMD program in 2003 (it remains to be seen if this was a complete renunciation, but all evidence points to that being the case so far).
That only leaves oil as a key interest of the U.S. in Libya. And when it comes to Libyan oil, Europe is much more exposed than the U.S. is. There simply isn't enough at stake in Libya for the U.S. to risk the opprobrium of world opinion by intervening in a purely domestic conflict. And oil may be a fungible commodity, but the amount of oil that Libya produces is inconsequential by itself to the global price of oil. (The reason that oil is currently spiking is the general unrest in the region and the fear that it could spread to the five countries that really matter to oil markets: Saudi Arabia, Iraq, Iran, Kuwait, and the UAE.)
