Types of Hajj

1) Hajj al-Tamatt'u (Umrah + Hajj separately)
2) Hajj al-Qiran (Umrah + Hajj Combined)
3) Hajj al-Ifrad (Hajj only)

These are the three types of Hajj. A description of these types of Hajj and their specifics are covered in the post-script.
Pilgrims from other countries than Saudi Arabia usually perform Hajj al-Tamatt'u, which is described here. That is they enter the Ihram at Miqat for Umrah only. After the Umrah then they release from Ihram and on 8th Dhul-Hijjah they assume Ihram for Hajj at their residence in Makkah and perform the rites of Hajj.

Go to Mina - (Before noon on 8th of Dhul-Hijjah)

The rites of Hajj begin on the 8th of Dhul-Hijjah, called the day of Tarwiyah. In the night before, before Fajr, take your niyyah (intention) and recite the talbiyah.

This day the pilgrims of Tamattu assumes Ihram for Hajj in the morning wherever he is staying. (Those of Qiran and Ifrad are already in Ihram).

The pilgrims set out for Mina before noon, and pray there Dhuhr, Asr, Maghrib and Isha. The prayer should be done as follows:

Dhuhr - 2 Rakaats without combining

Asr - 2 Rakaats without combining

Maghrib - in the usual manner

Isha - 2 rakaats only.

Spend the night in Mina.
