Go to Arafah - (after Fajr prayer on Dhul-Hijjah
9)
This is the Day of Arafah. After Fajr Prayer at Mina move to Arafah.
Staying at Arafah is among the pillars of Hajj, without which the Hajj
is invalid.
The prophet said: "The Hajj is Arafah" (Abu Dawud, at-Tirmidhi)
The day of Arafah is a most blessed day. Therein multitudes of pilgrims
throng to the plain of Arafat where the Muslims will remain until after
sunset. The entire plain of Arafah is a standing place. It is better to
remain standing but sitting down is also allowed.
Arafah surely reminds one of the Day of Judgment wherein every human being
created by God will have to stand before him and is answerable to him.
On that day Allah boasts of them to his angels.
Prophet said:
"There is no day on which Allah frees as many of His servants
from the fire as on the day of Arafah. Indeed He draws near and then boasts
of them to the angels and says, "What do they want?""
It is a Sunnah to stop at Masjid-e-Namrah at noon at Dhuhr time and hear
the speech if possible. Otherwise make sure that one is inside the border
of Arafah, as indicated by various road signs.
At noon time, the imam delivers a speech to the people. Then he leads
them in the Dhuhr and Asr prayers, which is joined and shortened,
with one Adhan and two Iqamahs as the Prophet did.
The supplications should be done facing the Kaabah. One should leave Arafah
only after the sun sets.
Go to Muzdalifah (after
sunset on 9th Dhul-Hijjah)
After the sun sets on the 9th Dhul-Hijjah the caravans of pilgrims begin
moving towards al-Mashar al-Haram (which is a hill) in Muzdalifah to pray
the Maghrib and Isha prayers joined and shortened, with one Adhan and
two Iqamahs as soon as they arrive.
The Sunnah practice is to spend the night in Muzdalifah and pray the Fajr
prayer there. But it is permissible for women, children and the weak and
their caretakers to leave for Mina after midnight.
