The U.S. was founded as a Democratic Republic. However, that does not mean that everyone has to have that form of government. There is really no kind of government that is without flaws. In the U.S. government, for instance, i is also hard to get a candidate on the ballot, and generally takes a very large amout of money behind him to get his name up for election. For a person with no established party behind him, unless he/she had a very large private fortune or was supported by a very large special interest group, it would be almost impossible to get elected or even onto the ballot. Therefore, we are not exactly what we think - a democratic Republic. True, you can elect your leader by a vote, but you will only have a small number of choices, and they will be picked for you by some group with very substantial monies and special interests backing them. So essentially, we are more of an oligarchy, and people can vote for which person in the oligarchy they choose.
